Re: Engine Preheater and use
I have almost the exact set up as Mike. I also live in WI. I use an old quilted movers blanket but an old sleeping bag or comforter would do. I close off the cylinder inlets with foam. I also have wraped the metal flexible dryer vent tubing with old rags (actually the legs of an old pair of sweat pa...

How 2 determine A-65 servicable cylinders?
I'm just wondering how a person can determine whether A-65 cylinders are serviceable or can be repaired to serviceable? The reason why I ask is a neighbor of mine passed away unexpectedly. Anyhow over conversations in the past he stated that he had several A-65 cylinders in his basement or house fro...

Re: Imperial Primer leaking
I also looked up the price at ACS, and I'll be damned if I'll pay $250 for what amounts to a glorified hypodermic plunger. I will remove and try to fix the one I have. I have to believe that it is repairable. If not I'll find a used primer somewhere. It would seem like they would be almost a dime a ...

Re: Power Panel Layout for1946 Chief
My Chief has standard throttle arrangement. The yoke itself will not be any problem. I do have a yoke mount for a handheld GPS. And if the throttle is full idle AND the yoke is in the FULL down AND the yoke is turned FULLY right aileron. The yoke mount will hit the throttle a smidgen in the last cou...

Re: Imperial Primer leaking
Thanks. That's it all right! I don't recall when I had it apart a couple years back the bullet shaped end. recall, mine is flat and the pump seal was actually a piece of leather. But maybe it was pointed but it definitely only had a leather seal. No "o"-rings to be found. I was dismayed a ...

Imperial Primer leaking
On my Chief I have a primer that is leaking. This primer is made by Imperial. It locks by threading it in. So it is not the typical Lunkin (spelling???) primer which has the post and slot method of locking. I've never seen the kind of primer before I have in any other plane. Anyhow this imperial pri...

Re: API Tailwheel problems
Last time I checked as I'm thinking of getting a new tailwheel leaf spring
Univair for the set of all the leafs was about $125. Last time I checked Wag Aero was like $20 more.

Re: carb heat cable routing
I have a non standard set up. In my chief the carb heat control knob is on the pilot's side (left side-port side) and the cabin interior heat (such as it is) is located on the passenger side. The arm for my carb box is also on the left side. I prefer this location as it makes more sense to keep an e...

Re: Why is our country bankrupt
Some people do not understand what is really going on I guess. There is one pesky FACT , documented and PROVEN FACT that many keep denying. And that is when Bush (And Reagan before him) lowered taxes. The REVENUE, the amount of money that the government actually collected went dramatically UP . That...

Re: vaccum/pitot/static system
You I think kind of have this question in the wrong area. This is for fuel system stuff. I would think this question may best be posted under the restoration or just the general area as I think it applies to both champs and chiefs. I thought the doughnut on the pitot/static system was for adjusting ...

Re: A-65 Bendix mags
All I know is my standard non impulse Bendix mags start on the first pull nearly every time with a cold engine. Warm engine usually by the 2nd pull. this is with a metal sensenich prop. I'm starting to wonder what the big deal is over impulse mags when mine starts so easily without them????? Maybe I...

Re: Chief ldg gear question
I'm not 100% sure but I think the gear is exactly the same between the BC and the CC. I also know that the long stroke gear can be installed on a 11AC or 11BC but there is no STC for it so there is no way to increase the gross weight with the long stroke gear installation. The gear is allowable unde...

Re: better heat
Flyboy,
Do you have an A-65 with the straight original Y-pipes?
Also there is little to nothing to let whatever heat is in the cabin to go around the seat and luggage compartment to heat the entire tailcone.
has anyone figured out a way to seal this up a bit better?

Re: better heat
IO have always wondered why no one has come up with a method to use the carb heat as a cabin heater. That is. Instead of dumping the unused hot air from when the carb heat is off and instead direct it into the cockpit instead of overboard. And then when you pull the carb heat on it goes into the eng...

Re: Pre-Heaters?
I use a ceramic heater stuffed into a card board box that I stuck metal clothes dryer vent into that I put up into the bottom of the cowl. I also cover the cowling and close off the two cylinder air eyelets. It works OK but the ceramic heater I use is a little anemic. It is really meant for below a ...
