Unable to squelch out background noise above 200'
Last year a friend loaned me a SkyRanger for a few months and I flew it using my Vertex VXA-300 for comm. It did beautifully on ground, but above 100 or 200' the squelch opened and I had a full-volume mixture of hiss, ATIS, local radio stations, etc. Tower transmissions would suppress that noise, bu...

Non-TSO'd equipment
I was browsing instruments (the used Alcor EGT I put in the Chief was DOA) and noticed this caveat attached to an ad for a digital CHT/EGT monitor: "Note: This unit is non-TSO’d and is for use in Experimental and light-sport aircraft and aircraft not having a Type Certificate prohibiting the us...

thanks Mike--
"A little forward" is true for us too. Playing around with some flexible pipe to model things out now.

Re: Cabin Heat Success in11AC's
Mike-We just got to the point of finding the C-150 stacks need "a little re-directing" to work on a Chief. Could I beg pics of how you managed to make them fit? Many thanks!

Re: Chief headliner
Holy Cow! He must not have been the one that covered the fuselage if he cut the top out! I can't begin to imagine I'd do that to my nice, new fabric! We haven't put the windshield or side windows in yet so that gives us a little more access, but yeah, I'm looking forward to this less than a lot of t...

Re: Chief headliner
The shoulder harnesses are in--we'll mark the headliner to locate the slots and do a buttonhole stitch around them. The plane is covered, with wings attached and on the gear--I think we'll have to skip the rolling it over part http://www.joea.com/phpBB2/posting.php?mode=reply&f=4&t=6062&...

Chief headliner
We're about ready to install a headliner in a '46 Chief project. I have the Airtex vinyl headliner kit in hand. Thinking through the project, I'm stumped by how to route the headliner behind the baggage area. Also, seems like it would be very handy to have zippers or velcro to access the aileron pul...

Re: Buzz Wagner Chief
Thanks Mike! Can't tell you how happy I am to hear your performance results. I have a lot of time and $$ into the O-200 rebuild--new Milleniums, balanced crank and rods, new cam, etc. We debated the mount choice a long time before using the short one. In the end, we felt the long mount was mainly an...

Re: Buzz Wagner Chief
Mike-- Amen to the "creative engineering" for baffles and carb box! The carb box is about solved, but baffles are still underway. How's your performance? Belatedly, I've been hearing the O-200 doesn't turn up high enough to give much more HP on takeoff than an A-65. I'm beginning to wish I...

Re: Buzz Wagner Chief
It's been a while since I last posted on this thread, but wanted to say the A-65 engine mount works just fine with the O-200. The Sky-Tec starter can even be installed without loosening the engine from the mount! The only remaining worry is cowling. We used the conical mount adapters, but the front ...

Re: DART and Mechanical Trouble Reporting System initiatives
Thanks Paul,
Is the text of the DAR proposal/discussion available anywhere? Other than Bob's brief presentation, I haven't seen anything else on it. It was the piece that really caught my attention as well, and an IA friend of mine was particularly interested.

DART and Mechanical Trouble Reporting System initiatives
At an OSH Aeronca forum this year, Bob mentioned a couple of FAA initiatives that were on the horizon--a "Mechanical Trouble Reporting System” that would be administered by type clubs, external to the FAA; and “DART”—DAR’s specializing in antique AC, and able to issue field approvals. Anyone he...

Re: Buzz Wagner Chief
Thanks for that note! I visited the project last week and we hung a C-85-12 case on the original mount to see how the accessories would fit. The mags, the SkyTec and a B&C 12.5 alt. fit great! (By my measurements, the B&C 30A alt. would fit as well.) We were just about to lock in the plan fo...

Re: Wood prop for O-200's
Thanks Joe,
The Sensenich data sheet lists max continuous HP and RPM as 125/2800--perfect for an O-200. ACSpruce lists a W69EK7-63 at about $1200. At this point, it's sure the leading candidate for mine.
