Re: if

Dan, You've been busy. Good thing you found the cracked piston. As to the springs, with the standard springs the important thing is that they are equal (length and strength.) If not, the airplane may be lopsided. If you have any parts made of fiber they should be discarded and replaced with aluminu...

Thanks Tim, This is what I found out. I removed the stuffing box from thee of the oelo's that I have. A freind brought me another. I now have two good aluminum pistons. The one had a broken piston. Someone installed a no bounce retainer on the good oleo (larger pin). The springs are just under 11&qu...

Re: Oleos

Perhaps if you included some photos we might be able to better understand what you've got. Re: oleos

Dan, If you are saying you have one no bounce and one regular oleo then you certainly don't want to try to operate with one of each. Tim Well I have looked at the drawing for the no bounce and the housing does not look the same as the bounce housing. I have two bounce housings, but one of the housi...

Re: No bounce oleo's

Hi Ray, forgot to mention there is one slight mod you have to do to the case frames to use the Long stroke (no bounce) oleo's, the top bolt used with the long stroke oleo's is a -5 vs a -4 for the original oleo's so either you drill out the upper hole or make a bushing to go in the oleo. I am worki...

1st) Royal Blue / yellow 2nd) Black / yellow and another $.02; I'd swap the colors on the wings. Blue/Black on the leading edge will hide bugs and grime better than yellow. But I do like the way you've got it. nkh If I was going to paint the wings I would not use yellow at all. The wings were done ...

Paint scheme

This is what I came up with for the customer. The wings had some yellow on them and I do not have to do them so I was limited. Seats are Brown. Customer would not redo them even though they are just cushions. Which one do you like best. http://i410.photobucket.com/albums/pp189/Cobra160/Champyellowbr...

Mike, I was explaining to an older fellow (The owner of the Champ I am redoing) on how it is much better from behind. While explaining it I noticed that you can hold onto or push against the strut if it moves some. Much better in my opinion than being in front and just getting run over.

Re: propping it

one and one half minutes is just enough time for the critter to wind up like the picture of the Champ halfway into a hangar. Many prop their own, succesfully for years with no problems! But....theres that one time where Murphys law steps in and bingo one goes from hero to ass h... in seconds. I got...

I just started this hand propping stuff. With my limited experience I use the from behind method. fuel on prime fuel off. two turns through, mags on pull! I'm half way back to the door by the time it catches. Like others have said it is not a big fast pull. I do not stand there and wait for it to be...

Ready for cover. :D Starting with the headliner. not sure if I should put most of the controls in first. I do not want it to get too heavy.

Those pics were very helpful I can see how the baggage compartment is now. I was not planning on using an envelope.

Has anyone done this without using an envelope? How about using the Maule method on the tail?

Should the middle stringer be a straight line? Or does it curve to fit the fuselage lines? Bottom stringer hits the brace and bowes out. I cut it out a little so it fits without bowing out. Right or wrong? It does not look correct bowed out, but the old one was not cut out. You can see the end of th...
