Pre-War 65-LA Panel and Instruments Restoration

Okey Dokey, I have been trying to go back to the original configuration and period instruments on my prewar chief. I have a large stewart-warner combo tach/oil press/oil temp I have had restored. I have an Aeronca non-sensitive altimeter, and now I am in the search for a period airspeed. It was my u...

Re: 1940 65-LA Windshield Problem

I have a 39 65LA with a 3-piece windshield. Mine cracked and I bought one from Great Lakes a couple years back. I sent them my windshield and got back something close but thicker. It took my A&P about 6 hours to get it on, took a lot of trimming and work to get it to fit, but it looks good now! ...

Re: Pre-War Registration and Decals

Clive,

Do you still have any of these decals? Also, who did you use to make your decals? I want to get some old style Sensenich Lilitz SB decals made. I found a place online but, they print on white vinyl and the machine will leave a small white line around the edge of the decal.

Re: Lets get this started

Glad to hear there are still folks interested in training in these airplanes. I'm a CFII and have put one person through the light sport certificate so far. I wish the CFI-S would have been around when I was trying to get my CFI. All CFI initial ratings (except light sport) have to be taken with an ...

Re: Lycoming 0-145

My A&P called El Reno and they told him that they wished they had prop seals as there had been many calls for them but, unfortunately, they don't have any remaining. Thanks for the input though. When I do find one, I am going to try to perform the Lycoming service bulletin to clean/polish the cr...

Re: LA-65 Oil Use

I believe I read in the O-145 Operating Manual that oil consumption in the normal RPM range is about .27/quarts/hr. However, I see about 1 quart every 10-15hrs myself. Thats still well below the manual specs as normal. So Im happy.

Re: Lycoming 0-145

I have a very leaky prop(crank) seal on my Lyc O-145. I'm on the hunt for one. Word is that Lycoming is manufacturing gasket/seal kits for the O-145. I also have another possible lead. If anyone has any information on where to find one, please let me know.
