L3B Rear spar adjusters
Hello,
I am very close to finishing my L3B, but ran into a last minute problem. I am missing the rear strut adjusters, Drawing number 1-712.
I can make these from scratch, but if anyone has a spare pair, I would be happy to buy them.

Re: 0-200-8
Bob, I think he has an A series engine. There has been a few boot-leg conversions to an A80, but without really spinning up the RPM you still get a similar rating. Unless Jack has that short 70" DK prop and spins it up to 2500 RPM the engine makes similar power to the A65. Paul Not quite. The ...

Re: My L3B engine
Got one cylinder at a time soaking in a bucket full of mineral spirits. Let's see what that does. I even tried using a regular car engine hoist; I tied a rope through the rocker arm bushings and hung the engine from one cylinder. Did the same on the other side and secured it to the lower legs of the...

My L3B engine
Had a chance to work on my L3B recently and pulled apart the original 1942 engine which has been sitting in a shed since 1952. It appears it had 156 hours on it. I didn't know what state the insides would be in, but after dismantling (it all came apart without any problems), cleaning and checking di...

Re: Bendix mag parts
I guess Fresno does have them. Tried measuring them yesterday but the shaft seems to be an odd size - close to 15mm (5.93" or so) , whereas the outside dimension seems to be 1 3/8".
I'll see when I get them.

Bendix mag parts
Does anyone have a source for the ball bearings for the Bendix SF4 mags? Fresno and Spruce don't list them specifically, though I suspect they might be interchangeable with later versions. I suspect they are some off the shelf standard size - anyone know the numbers? OD x ID by width if applicable? ...

Fabric covering services
Greetings all - after many years of dabbling in old airplanes (and homebuilts) I felt the time had come to hang out my shingle and devote all my time to keeping old airplanes flying. I have accumulated a lot of experience over the last 30 years in this field and all my friends agreed I ought to put ...

Re: Spars - Wood or Metal
I find it difficult to believe that a metal spar would have the slightest effect on speed, given that all else is equal. If there is a slight weight difference, it would be almost impossible to detect this by the effect on speed. Even if you can make direct comparisons, there are enough other variab...

Re: Bah Humbug
I have put about 4000 rivets through my $40 Harbor Freight riveter and it still works great. The days when you get what you pay for as far as tools go are pretty much in the past. I had Ryobi, Dewalt, Makita etc tools in the past and sometimes the cheap stuff outlasts them. I buy cheap tools when I ...

Re: "Hangars are no place for building airplanes...":
4 But there could be a problem if you park your car in the hangar, while you take your airplane to Blakesburg, or Middleton, for a week, and the inspectors happen to come by for a look-see while you're gone. This happens to be specifically allowed at our airport, by the management, no idea what the...

Re: "Hangars are no place for building airplanes...":
This business of "subsidizing" my hangar - I pay through the nose for this, so how am I taking any FAA money? They certainly did not erect these hangars and I pay plenty of fuel taxes. Certainly more than the maintenance of this hangar costs, even if they did foot the bill for it, which th...

Re: "Hangars are no place for building airplanes...":
All well and good if you live anywhere near a cheap, non-FAA funded airport. Try this finding that in Southern California. And I don't "take FAA money", I pay $800 a month for my hangar! Not that they built them in the first place... Yes, those are their rules and they are stupid. There is...

Re: "Hangars are no place for building airplanes...":
I am amazed at the number of people that store stuff at one of the local, city owned airports here. Seems like 50 percent of them hold junk, and there is a waiting list a mile long to get a hangar if want to park your aircraft. On the other hand restoring one is fine with me. ANY other activity apa...
