Hydraulic L-3 Brakes
Has anyone converted an L-3 to hydraulic disc brakes? I've got replacement Cleveland drum brake linings ordered, but at $50 each and so far, two weeks on backorder, I'm thinking on planning for a conversion if I ever have to replace the linings again. W/ the rescent AC on vintage aircraft, it should...

Re: david clark head set ?
OK, I know this is an older post, but if you (Bob) decide you want noise cancelling after all, you can upgrade the DC's w/ a Headsets, Inc kit. I've upgraded 5 headsets and they work great for a fraction of the cost. Splurge for AMP cable. Its worth it to get rid of having a seperate power cable.

Re: Anyone fly from the house?
Dennis, I grew up on a privately owned airstrip in KY (Shannon - 17KY). Small town (pop. 450), small county (pop. 16,000), and still had five private turf runways within 8 miles of us. Being able to walk out and fly when you want is great, but my best memory growing up there is when friends would fl...

Re: Stag Airpark Spring Fly-In - May 8th, Burgaw, NC
The fly-in was a success. It was windy, but there was still a descent turn out. The car show was really good too and many of the car guys and plane guys said they really enjoyed having the others there. Put it on your calendar for next year.

Re: Oldaeronca ad
I was digging through a stack of papers that came w/ my L-3 and found a copy of an ad for the Tri-Con Champ. Glad I found this post as I was wondering if any had ever been produced and sold.
Joe, if you'd like a copy of the ad, I'll scan and email it to you.

My L-3 was in South Plain, TX near Lubbock in the spring of 1943. It didn't stay there long, though. Keep us posted as you begin your project.

stencils and lettering
I've been looking for the proper lettering for the service ID numbers on the tail of my L-3. I've found something close, but the #2 isn't correct. Anyone found a good font so I can have a stencil made? Also, how tall should those numbers be? It looks like its about 6 inches, but I haven't found a co...

Stag Airpark Spring Fly-In - May 8th, Burgaw, NC
Those of you in or close to eastern NC, come on down to Stag Airpark just a little north of Wimington, NC on Saturday the 8th. EAA chap. 297 is hosting its annual fly-in and the Wilmington British Sports Car club is also having a show at the airpark. BBQ for lunch - reasonable price.

Re: CAA War Training Service
The military service record I have for my L-3 indicates that Hunter Flying Service was the first "owner" of it in 1942. It later went to Hamilton, TX (also a Hunter location) before being assigned to a few other locations. I'm trying to figure out what would be the true authentic paint sch...

CAA War Training Service
Does anyone know details about the War Training Service. It seems they did a large majority of pilot training during WWII. Before changing their name to WTS, they were knows at the Civilian Pilot Training Program. Specifically, I'd like to know if Hunter Flying Service was part of the WTS. I'm consi...
