Fuel Prices
We have broken the $4.00 ceiling in California. $4.45 in Oakland, $4.47 in Salinas $5.00 in Stockton. Kaiser Air in Oakland had to reprogram their self serve pumps to accept prices above $4.00.

Cleveland Cam Wear Plate Specs
Interesting discovery. After speaking to several people regarding the sticking right brake problem I was experiencing and removing the wheel and inspecting the brakes, I discovered the probelm was a simple one. Talking to Paul Agaliotis reminded me the best process is to start with the simple stuff ...

Thanks Guest,
I'd like to discuss the phenol fix with you more. I assume you must remove the worn metal insert first in order to replace it with the phenol insert. I'll have to look closely at the inserts to figure how best to accomplish the removal.

Tailwheels
Anyone have experience with the new Lang or Matco tailwheels. Price is appealing. The Lang PN D-501A (Aircraft Spruce) is listed for $375.96, The Matco is listed at $191 - pneumatic, $138 - hardrubber. I am looking for a reasonably priced alternative to my Maule and don't want to pay $700 for a Scott.

Aero Fabricators Aux Fuel System
I have the two five gallon wing tanks that empty into the main. I can select "off", or "right", or "left". I have developed the habit of timing the fuel transfer. In my aircraft, it will generally take 20 minutes to completely drain a five gallon wing tank.

Leaky Engine
I have a C-85, on a 1946 7BCM, I have the same situation - however it is intermitent. I have gone through the engine inspection process and have spoken to members of my EAA group, who also fly older aircraft with the updraft carbureator. I have come to the conclusion the leak is fuel from the carbur...

Cleveland Cam Wear Plate Specs
I am experiencing some intermittent problems with the right brake of my 1946 Champ. I have the mechanical Cleveland drum brakes. Shortly after purchasing the Champ several years ago, I noticed during a wheel inspection that the wear plates were in fact worn. I rotated the right left brake shoes and ...

Tailwheel Springs
Mike, I also have the Maule and the compression springs. I replaced the tension spring set-up with the compression springs because the rudder hinges were wearing. I don't have mine under tension. I have set them up with links so they are just slightly loose. Works fine, tracks well and handles quick...

Wing Tanks
How much fuel is enough is like debating bra cup sizes - how much is enough? Well, it depends! If you are really interested in installing the wing tanks give American Champion a call. They retain most of the STCs and most of the older drawings.

Columbia Still a Great Destination
Saturday, May 14th, the wife was out of town. She had been wanting horse shoes from the Blacksmith at Columbia for family members, so I decided to fly up to Columbia to get them for her. Columbia airport (O22) is located in the Sierra foothills of California, thirtyeight miles Northeast of Stockton....

Auto Fuel Tax Refund
Out here in California they call the road tax refund program the S.B.C.I.H. Program, or "Snow Ball's Chance in Hell." The problem with chasing Wild Women is that all the fun is in the chasing, once caught Wild Women can also be taxing. Hope you are thawing out well.

Tail Heavy Champ
Thanks for all the suggestions. Just tightening the friction on the trim control did the trick. However, I discovered if I tighten the friction to tight I can't trim up elevator sufficiently for landing - wind up fighting trim. After some experimenting I've got it figured out.
