Re: 7DC-158
Responding an advertisement in Barnstormers, I drove 991 miles to retrieve the wings and fuselage from what used the be CF-IRR, a 7DC number 158. All that glitters in not gold and while not perfect, the parts are in considerably better shape than a set of wings I looked at two weeks previous. The r...

Re: Aux tank shut off valves Imperial 104HD
Clipperfixer, I just skyped with my sister in Boca, the valve arrived there today. I very much appreciate that you sent it so promptly - many thanks!
All the best to you.

Re: Aux tank shut off valves Imperial 104HD
Clipperfixer, I'd like one valve please. Although I'm in the UK, $ payment would be from, and shipping to, my sister in Florida. You have a pm with further details.
Cheers

5ft tall and fly a Champ?
Are there any 5ft Champ pilots out there? If so, do you simply use cushions to bring your seating position forward and/or upward, but still manage to get full aft stick when required? Or have you designed some way of adding extensions to the rudder pedals? What is undoubtedly one of the two best Cha...

Current price at my base airfield on the South coast England for Avgas 100LL is roughly $12.80 per US gallon.Richard wrote:.... So now I'm stuck paying $5.40 for 100LL until I can find another outlet.
Let's not mention hangarage costs and (compulsory) insurance .....

Re: converting from a a65 to a c85
Dan In the UK there is an example of the Bellanca Champ 7ACA, imported in 1988 from the US where as N9173L I'm fairly certain it had already been re-engined with a C85-8F. I've seen posts on here about obtaining a CD with the FAA records for specific aircraft ... without being the owner would it sti...

Re: Adjusting airspeed indications
I'm in the UK with different legalities to the US, but would suggest that if you can do so legally you could try simply removing the disc completely. On the first Champ which I shared some years ago the ASI over-read badly, indicating 120mph or so in the cruise (I wish!) and a stall in the 60s. The ...

Re: making cables
Ron FWIW I noticed that in section VI Charts (pdf page 40 of 49) of the L16B service manual it identifies both elevator cables and both rudder cables as 1/8" and the elevator trim tab cable as 1/16". No mention of aileron cables, although it seems there may be a page (38?) missing in this ...

Re: C90 runup
An interesting question - I've always used 1,800rpm for mag checks on my Champ's C85, but without any real basis other than it being 75% of the 2,400 rpm max static. Robert, your post about downloading the Army L16 manual intrigued me, as I've never come across a flight manual for a Champ; a little ...

Re: 7BCM/L-16A serial numbers
Bill, one last snippet of information that I have turned up from old magazines ... it appears that the original US military serial number for the 7BCM G-BFAF was 47-797 which would seem to be consistent with the subsequent N797US registration, albeit initially via N2552B which was it's first registr...

Re: 7BCM/L-16A serial numbers
Bill, on the UK civil aircraft register there are 3 x Champs recorded as 7BCMs, two of which are actually conversions of civilian 7ACs ie with the C85 engine but without the fully extended cabin windows of the L16. One of these is G-DHAH which is now flying in immaculate condition after a long term ...

Re: C.G. too far aft
Martha, there are indeed some good suggestions above that may improve the CG calculations for your Chief and thus put your mind at rest, and in that context I may be talking complete rubbish - but I wonder whether you actually have a problem at all? The FAA TCDS document for the 11AC states: C.G. Ra...
