Re: 8130 or Yellow tag Issues

I did talk with the shop in Tulsa. I told them the situation. The person I talked to offered to do a functional bench check and maintanace release for the bench check only (he didn't give me a price for this). He stated he can not yellowtag the part overhauled unless he goes completely through it ag...

Re: 8130 or Yellow tag Issues

I agree with you both. If I had my A&P I also would not hesitate to sign the part off. On the other hand if I had known there would be no paper work included I would have fixed the part myself and reinstalled and kept my mouth shut. Honestly it would have worked and been a lot cheaper outcome. O...

8130 or Yellow tag Issues

I have a dilemma. I just received a part back from a repair shop that came highly recommended from several Aeronca aviators. The problem is that I did not receive an 8130 or yellow tag of any kind for this part being overhauled. I called the repair shop and talked to the owner who said he lost his c...

Re: Bendix Mag SF-4 issue - 400 rpm drop on right mag/sparkp

Mark, If this next step leads you to supsect a coil I wanted to let you know that you could actually swap coils fairly easy without removing the mags. That way you don't have to break gaskets and re-time the engine. Just remove the four screws on top the coil and condenser wire to the p-lead post an...

Re: Menasco powered Chief

Paul,
I hope you can get the Menasco going. I'll keep my eyes open for parts. It would be a great historical Aeronca to have. I initially wanted to find one several years ago but didn't have much luck then.

Re: Menasco powered Chief

Paul, I used to own a KM that had been converted to a Lycoming 65 by Don Pietenpol. It was a great airplane and flew wonderfully then got stupid and sold the plane to pay off bills. The 337 that Don filed when he did the engine swap said changed engine on factory recommendation obtained mount from f...

Re: Bendix Mag SF-4 issue - 400 rpm drop on right mag/sparkp

I was on the list looking around for information on Bendix Scintilla SF4's and found your post. After reading your post and hearing the suggestions about the plugs possibly being the trouble. I wondered this why not switch the bottom and top plugs? Then if the problem follows to the other mag then y...
