Re: C85-8F with Stromberg NAS-3A1 Carb
There is a good article in the recent issue of Aeronca Aviator (Vol. 18, No. 2, Oct. 2012)on the NA-S3 Stromberg Carburetors. Most of the discussion is focused on the mixture control and how it works.

Small LED White Strobe for Champ
I have been working on a preliminary design for a 1.00 inch diameter white LED strobe light to mount on the right hand wing root of my L16A to make myself a bit more visible to descending aircraft since I usually fly low and slow. The design uses 20 each 3.45 mm square Cree Inc. white LED's mounted ...

Re: Transponder Installations
I have attempted to load a photo of the installation on my Champ but I get a response " attachment quota has been reached"? The trasponder slides into an aluminum box mounted on the plywood floor, this could be done on a Chief as well with the box positioned up close to the seat in the cen...

Re: Repair facility for Bendix-King Kx 99
I was very pleased with the folks at El Paso Aero Inc. in El Paso, TX. Ask for Bill. Not sure if they will work on your radio but give them a call at http://www.elpasoaero.com/avionics.html 800-437-2376. They calibrated my old transponder and tuned up the klystron for a very reasonable cost.

Re: 100 hp champ cruise speed?
I have an L16A with a C85-12 engine and a Sensenich 74CK-2-46 metal prop, I see 105 mph at full throttle 2550 rpm at level flight. I normally cruise at 2250 rpm giving me 87 mph burning a little less than 5 gal/hr. The engine has been recently overhauled.

Re: Hot C85-12 Engine
Joe, As you will recall during cruse flight with an oil temperature of 210 deg F I experienced an oil pressure drop to 21 psi at 2300 rpm on my overhauled C85 engine. I have given all of these details to my engine re-builder. He had suggested that I add two thick washers under the spring of the oil ...

Re: Hot C85-12 Engine
John and Mike,
Attached are some photos of my engine baffle setup, what I plan of doing is to attempt to pull in the baffle against the rear cylinders with a wire.

Re: Hot C85-12 Engine
Mike, During cruise flight (ie. 2300rpm) my oil temperature gauge reads 220 deg F with the outside air temperatue at 80 deg F, this represents a 140 deg rise above the ambient temperature. Your temperature rise above ambient is only 80 degrees, that's great. I plan on checking the calibration of my ...

Re: Hot C85-12 Engine
Sam, Generally these little engines run pretty cool. If you see 140F that's pretty cool for 80 deg. day. The temp bulb indicates oil temp as it exits the engine. Here in CA you might need to open the cowl, but I've never needed to. Paul Paul, My engine was at 220 deg F with an outside temperature o...

Hot C85-12 Engine
During Cruise at 2300 rpm I typically see a 140 degree oil temperature over ambient (ie. at 80 deg F I see 80 + 140 = 220 deg F which is right at the limit according to the Continental engine manual. I am seeking comments from folks that have carried out provisions of the "Helps and Hints No. 2...

Re: 7BCM propeller
I have an L16A 7BCM with a C85-12 engine and a McCauley metal 1A90 CF7043 metal prop. The climb is over 600 ft per minute with a full fuel load and me. I am able to cruse at 85 mph at 2300 rpm. I think I have a climb prop here. According to the Univair catalog pg 13-2 for this aircraft the standard ...
