Re: Missing log books

Thanks guys. I suppose my concern here is if I buy this airplane and want to sell it 5-10 years from now, do you think potential buyers would be a bit squeamish in buying it due to the lack of history in the log books? If so, what dollar amount would make that person less squeamish? For me, I would ...

Re: Missing log books

Does anyone have a "rough" idea how much the inspections for the ADs might cost. Knowing this might give me a flavor as to how much room there should be in the negotiated price. I do know the previous owner was flying this airplane up until he got sick and has only sat for maybe 8 months. ...

Re: Missing log books

I had already purchased the CD from the FAA that has the airframe info on it. It was up to date. There was nothing about the engine. The new prop was installed in 2008. I wonder if the IA could produce something for that info. The airplane is flyable but not in perfect condition by any means. Wings ...

Missing log books

Can anyone give me an idea of how much the value of a 7AC would drop without the log books being available. The owner of the airplane I am interested in buying has died. The family is trying to find the log books but is having a difficult time. I want to treat these good people fairly and was curiou...

Mode C Transponder

I'm a student pilot anticipate closing on a 7AC in the near future and had a few questions. (My check ride will not be in this aircraft.) It is equipped with a rechargeable battery that powers a handheld radio with external antenna. Since the aircraft does not have electric, is it safe to say, it wi...

Re: wood props on a-65/ 7ac

Is it true that if you have a prop strike with a wooden prop, you are not required to automatically tear down the engine for inspection? (Due to it breaking apart and thus taking the brunt of the damage as opposed to a metal prop.)

Re: Pre-Buy Inspection Questions

Thanks Joe. I've been looking at on at an airport near me and plan to meet the owner this week if possible. I am a student pilot right now (with 60 hrs) and getting closer to getting my ticket. Would I be allowed to do some of the work you described or can only a licensed pilot do this? (Or does thi...

Pre-Buy Inspection Questions

I am looking into buying a 7AC for my first airplane and was wondering what gets inspected in a pre-buy inspection. Also, what is the approximate cost for this inspection for an old rag wing aeroplane and is it roughly the same cost as for a Cessna 150 or 172? (Obviously I realize that IA's prices m...

Re: Useful load of 7AC

Thanks for the reply, Mike. So is oil figured at 6lbs per gallon like gas? If so then 13+1=14 14x6=84 480-84=396 lbs for people and luggage. I am planning on buying a 7AC. However, I realize if I take my son with me for a $100 burgers I better make sure they not have cheese on them. :) On the bright...

Useful load of 7AC

Does anyone know what the typical useful load is for a 7AC? Wikipedia has the following info: Empty weight: 740 lb (325 kg) Max takeoff weight: 1,220 lb (533 kg) Does this seem accurate to you? That looks like it leaves me with 480 lbs for fuel and people? How many gallons of fuel does the tank hold...

Re: How much to replace ceconite on wings

Lots of good info from everyone.

Flyin Fool, special thanks for writing all that. Excellent info and it gave me a lot to think about.

After I get the logs and inspection, I should have a good idea if this will be worth it.

I think it might. But won't know until I know how the spars are.

Re: How much to replace ceconite on wings

Thanks Joe. I haven't purchased this Champ yet. I want to. But I also want to get a ball park idea of what it will cost to recover those wings and tail feathers. Also was curious what a paint job might cost. These things will help me gauge it's value and price after I find out what it will need afte...

How much to replace ceconite on wings

I am looking at a 7AC Champ to purchase. The fuselage has been redone 3 years ago. However the wings and tail feathers have not been done in many many years. There are a few patches and some hangar rash to on the wings as well. I am wondering what it might cost to have these parts recovered and pain...

A friend left me a camera to play with, here are a couple of clips. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB3_0zXb3vU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CL9UQZp43I Wheeler, Those were excellent! You must have been pretty tired hanging on on top of the wing and filming that. Just kidding. How did you m...
