Re: Oil filler door
Yeah, I just had my AP make a new one, and he did a great job. Better than the old one.

Re: Terrible Transmission above Idle
Hello, Well, I bought the A14. That did seem to make a difference. I'm pretty sure the A24 was simply picking up a great deal of cockpit noise. I also bought a leather cover for the foam wrap on the mic to further reduce cockpit noise. It was a little hole in it for voice transmission. It's made for...

Re: Removing a Stromberg carb - Help!
Well, mine is back on, and with any luck, will not have to come off again while I have her!

Re: Stumbling at low cruise rpm
Update: Well, it was intake leaks. Intake tube rubbers were hard and cracking. Going to go fly it today and test it out.

Re: trouble with advancing throttle
I don't know if you're responding to Dan, or my usurpation of his thread, Mike.
But if it's me, then that's not the problem. I can ease it into the 2000 rpm range at a snail's pace and it will run rough when I get there. The quest for the problem continues...

Re: Stumbling at low cruise rpm
Hey. I think you may be right. Adjusting the idle mixture did help (at least it narrowed the range of roughness), but that's probably just because it wasn't set well in the first place. The remaining roughness may be something blocked in the carb. It was thoroughly and well cleaned, but we may have ...

Re: Oil filler door
There's a piano hinge on top and a push button catch in the middle of the bottom. The catch wasn't holding anymore, I guess, and the wire on the hinge must have worked it's way out during flight as the door flapped around. Can't see it from the pilot's seat.

Re: Removing a Stromberg carb - Help!
Now you tell me!
We got it back on. May have to take it back off though, as it's running rough between 1950 and 2150 rpm.

Re: Oil filler door
I'll give him a call and see. But if anyone knows of an original laying around somewhere, let me know.

Oil filler door
Well, the oil filler door on my '46 11AC Chief appears to have fluttered down on some unsuspecting pasture in my last flight. Where might one go about finding a replacement oil filler door?

Re: Stumbling at low cruise rpm
Update: I flew her again today. Before flying I adjusted the idle mixture screw a little at a time until she ran well on the ground, both advancing and retarding throttle rapidly. That required a full turn rich, and she's now at 3 turns from full lean. She ran better in the air, but still has a prob...

Re: Stumbling at low cruise rpm
Hey Paul, Yeah, that's puzzling me as well about the rpm range. I get backfiring at idle when on final, of course, since that's when the engine tends to run a little rich. I did adjust the idle mixture 1/2 turn richer just before this last flight (but after the roughness had already moved up the rpm...

Re: trouble with advancing throttle
Dan, any luck fixing this problem? I have it now too. Except I have it in the air while flying. Pull back to about 2100 to 1800 and she sputters and coughs a bit, running rough. It's the airplane that Jack is talking about a couple of posts above. We had the carb cleaned and a new needle and seat in...
