Re: Value of L-16B
This would be, it seems to me, a great airplane for someone with mikes background to buy and when an overhaul was indicated, do a don swords conversion to an 0200 and put the wing tank or tanks in it. I don't have that ability, or the money. Best, JC

Re: Value of L-16B
The airplane I described above May be for sale. I recently spoke to the current owner in Houston Texas. He also owns a cornell, WW2 trainer that is costing him quite a bit to keep flying. He allows as how the 7BCM may have to go. He has kept it in perfect condition, hangared and says its in tip top ...

Re: Value of L-16B
I forgot the reason I sold it. It only had the 12 gallon tank, no wing tanks whIch severely limited it's range. I was going to add wing tanks but the price was more than I wanted to spend so I sold it.

Re: Value of L-16B
If you google n81607, you will come upon a 1946 7bcm cubby green and white. I bought it 6 years ago from a retired airline captain. It was 85 hp, full electric, starter, new millinium cylinders, transceiver, transponder. Interior, stripped and painted white, Ceconite, seats, black leather. paint in ...

Re: Owner Maintenance
Ahhhhh....The good old days! Please google. .....don guy crop duster.....a documentary made in the 70's, filmed in rural Mississippi, about a young pilot, doing what he was told so he could build time, handling liquid nerve gas, spraying his "helper" on each pass with the poison, etc. some...

Re: Roll-up Hangar Doors
Today.....the owner passed away a few years ago and so the hangars are mostly in disrepair and need maintence plus the aircraft owners who cared about the place and helped out some are gone. Changing times.

Re: Roll-up Hangar Doors
Forgot......at the bottom, the doors had attachments for metal rods that dropped into pipes in the ground so the doors could not blow into the aircraft. The original hangars were cantilever types. Simple but worked very well.

Re: Roll-up Hangar Doors
The strip I flew out of for many years started on a dairy farm. The farmer, smitten by the flying bug originally kept his champ in an equipment shed along with hay rake, tractor, etc. as he expanded, he simply put up another equipment shed , and then another, etc. with a lowered roof which would jus...

Re: If I already mentioned this
That sure is a magnificent sedan you have! RE the polish pilots, eventually they had their own squadron, probably due to the language barrier. The polish pilots really had an axe to grind with the Germans so in the air it was no holds barred. They flew VERY close to the Germans before firing which a...

If I already mentioned this
My sincere apologies......two books that some of you may enjoy....1. " A question of Honor" deals with the refugee Polish pilots who, after fighting the Germans in Poland, in lousy aircraft, fled to England and volunteered for The RAF. The British pilots, rather stuffy and full of themselv...

Try both or all. I'm not familiar with the model Paul is talking about. I would look into his suggestion also. He knows these aircraft better than I do.

I forgot, the GCBC is 150 HP, mine was mid time engine, a performer! When I mention price I'm talking one in real nice shape, good radio, paint, interior, engine, strobes, etc. JC

Re: Outside the envelope
I owned a very nice champ 7bcm with a recent redone 85hp. Nice little airplane, fun to fly. I bought it after I went (had to) go light sport. It was a big disapointment from the 150 HP Citabria I had been flying alot. The two fly very much alike because they ARE very much alike in design -handling e...

Re: Tailwheel spring tension??
I've mentioned this before. My 85 HP champ had a Scott 3200. At one point it started the vibration bit. 80 year old AI said "not to worry, springs too loose"Said they should be "firm" but not too tight. No more problems. Then two Taylorcrafts. First one had a 3200 Scott, no probl...
