Re: Vertical tail fin extension
As Dick noted (and I've always said) the Wagner STC leaves a lot open to "interpretation" or up to common sense. I understand Dicks point regarding service letter 15. Wagner STC is specific in that the "Clamp on dorsal fin (specification #618) is recommended but not required under the...

Re: Wing tank gas cap?
I have the Wag Aero 5 gallon fuel tanks in both wings of my 0200/L16. Even though the caps that came with the tank kit are vented the tanks had a "difficult time" transferring to the nose tank. If I remember correctly the left tank would transfer but the right one not so I'm thinking it's ...

Re: Vertical tail fin extension
While I have flown both the big and small dorsal fin Champs, etc. I've owned a 7AC, L16 and 11CC Chief all have the big fin. Some purists don't like the look of the big fin but I'm OK with it. I think I find the big tail a little more stable in the air but it gives the wind extra area to push on whe...

Re: Helps and Hints 31
Sorry late to chime in I don't check this site that often anymore but the original setting 55# seems too tight. I believe a good compromise is 35-40#.
Hope this helps!

Re: Aux tank gauge
The problem with the auxiliary tank gauge is that the float sticks straight in where as the nose tank gauge is bent. Maybe it's possible to 'remanufacturer' a nose tank gauge to work. I wasn't faced with that problem as I already had the aux tank gauge. I did spend a lot of time making gaskets to pr...

Re: Aux tank gauge
It's a Model A Ford type gauge but the regular one from Wag Aero or Ford aftermarket won't work as it's a different configuration. Most of those auxiliary tank gauges used on Chiefs 'leaked or seeped' just enough to stain the headliner so (other than the fact it probably should have one to meet the ...

Re: 7EC Windshield alternative
Jeff,
I believe the Citabria one will fit your model. It's certainly less expensive than the bubble which I have on my L16 (7BCM). Either windshield will take a lot of trimming to make it fit properly.

Re: Torque Setting for engine mounts
Paul is correct on the 60-80 for the conical mounts. Having said that don't be surprised if the mounts show cracks around the edges after a year or less. Look like #%## but doesn't seem to hurt anything and doesn't seem to have anything to do with torque. I've replaced them in a Champ after 3-5 year...

Re: Champ paperwork needed
I just went through an interesting things helping a local widow that I went to high school with clean out her hangar (husband was a pack rat). Helped her sell a wrecked Bonanza and a couple of homebuilts that would never fly. Also, in the hangar was 46 Stinson 108-1 with complete logs (but) the bill...

Re: Champ paperwork needed
Thanks Paul, I do have the FAA CD which has some documentation and times. At least on this one the repairs match the 337 forms. Located a couple of former owners and able to establish some times. Of course taking the bird down to the frame and documenting inspection and rebuild is of some value in t...

A65-80 Oil Tank
I have a A65-80 4 quart oil pan for sale on ebay if anyone is interested. Item 2225127907. It came on an engine I bought several years ago. Seems like dip stick was on the left side instead of the right but there probably isn't any difference in mounting. Has the correct 4 quart dip stick. Couple of...

Re: Champ paperwork needed
I'm still trying to come up with some definitive paper work on my 11CC Chief. Have the CD, data plate and was able to come up with a replacement airworthiness certificate but no logs on either the engine or airframe other than what's on the FAA CD. Having said that I've pulled the oil pan and rear c...

Re: BasicMed is Here
Friend of mine 88-89 years old took his basic med. He is also an excellent pilot and you would not think he is that old. I'm up for regular physical in July (age 77) so think I'll go ahead and do the paperwork.
