Aeronca Memories

I soloed in a Champ back in 1949 at age 17 and have loved them since. In 1950's while in college (Georgia Tech) I flew the flying club's Champ and in 1958 I did some instructing in Champs in Florida. After many years and some 16,000 flying hours I'm again planning to buy a Champ. Hope to close on on...

Champ with C-85-12 or C-90 Wanted

Hi guys,

I've been absent from this forum for quite a while- am still looking to buy a converted Champ or L-16 that has a battery and starter or can be fitted with a starter. Must be LSA legal.

My e-mail is: RMantel@comcast.net

Thanks and happy landings!

Joe, thanks, helpful and informative. Not a bad idea. There's an STCfor the starter installation, but it's the conversion to an 85 or 90 - 12 that I haven't found.

PMI but how do I contact Greg Horrell?

Are there any legal Champs with electric starters ?

I've now looked at several Champs with C-85-12 engines and all have undocumented conversions. Are there any legal 7DC's -, 7CCM's or conversions, legally converted to -12 engines with starter and battery ? There are a number of informally converted Champs but are there any legal ones ? I'm not even ...

Thanks Mike- I'll look at both Lasher and Wagner STC's. How can I look at them without actually buying ? The airplane I have in mind is already converted but no documents and I'm trying to determine if it conforms with an approved installation. I believe the C-85-12 has also been installed with just...

Need 337 for C-85-12 conversion

Does anyone have an approved 337 for converting a 7AC to a C-85-12 engine ?
How about an STC ?
Thanks,
Rudy

Would be grateful for337 for electrical / battery in Champ

I would be most grateful if someone could provide an approved 337
for a battery installation and/ or electrical system in a Champ.
Thanks,

Still looking for an LSA Champ with starter

This week I nearly bought a nice 7AC with C-85-12 and light weight starter. I traveled half-way across the country with a certified bank check, intending to fly it home. Unfortunately, the airplane suffered from a total lack of documentation and the engine had a checkered (and also undocumented) his...

Mike, I agree. For 8 yars I owned an S-1S Pitts with an IO-360 and no electrical system whatsoever. (A little gel-cel for the radio) A wobble pump gave initial fuel pressure. But I had a lineman trained to prop it. I just don't like propping an airplane all by myself with no one in the cockpit. Henc...

Joe, I'm not sure it's that easy. Today most feds are reluctant to approve an installation from scratch (field approval). Having a previously-approved 337 really helps.

Joe, the starter is not in question. The airplane I'm interested in has a light weight starter on a -12 engine. There's an STC for that.
It's the battery installation I need documentation on. An approved 337
would be most helpful.
