Re: L-16A 7BCM-73 USAF 47-859
Moved from FB: OK, Aeroncateers. Question about the front spar 4130 carry thru. Blueprint 1-2625c. How did Aeronca build the tube with a neck down on the ID a little over an inch down each tube? And why go to all the trouble? Was it to make the square tube easier to weld thin tubing on to? I have an...

Re: L-16A 7BCM-73 USAF 47-859
Moving some info from FB to here to preserve: OK here is Bill Pancake's reply. Aeronca moved from Lunken to Middletown after the big floods in Cincinnati in 1936 and 1937. They made the move to Middletown in the spring of 1940. 1-562 was the new data plate. They started using the 1-562 data plate on...

Re: L-16A 7BCM-73 USAF 47-859
Mike and Bill, Thanks for the help. I have the military records from Maxwell. There is not much in there. First look at the plate with Lunken on it I thought it was a restamp. The more I look at it I am not so sure. Now I start collecting photos of other plates to help document them before they are ...

Re: L-16A 7BCM-73 USAF 47-859
New question. Here is the original data plate for my L-16. Note the mfg date is not stamped and the plate used says Lunken on the bottom not Middletown. Could you L-16 owners look at your plates and tell me what you find? David J./Jasper GA [img http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc125/n8926/100_015...

Re: carb air boxes
Dave, everything I have seen uses the 4-601 air scoop assembly. I don't have the 4-877 print to look at. Every Champ I have ever seen has this air box. Except for the L-16 with fuel injection. David J./Jasper, GA

Re: L-16A 7BCM-73 USAF 47-859
Mike, the military Technical Orders showed there was a problem with fine debris going thru the pump and causing problems. Tiny stuff ususally goes right thru a carb. Don't know who could overhaul pumps and other parts after this long. David J.

Re: L-16A 7BCM-73 USAF 47-859
Paul, what I am trying to backstop & verify is the L-16 interior color we have been using. Looking thru Lloyd's stuff now to try and find an original chip to check by and keep. I wonder if the number John Houser listed means anything in Roxatone? You got any ideas or an original chip? I have acc...

Re: L-16A 7BCM-73 USAF 47-859
Paul, Thank you for the offer. I think I have everything to make it complete. I got it all from Lloyd. He is a pack rat from way back. He is doing pretty good for a nearly 79 year old. Playing with A model Fords since he backed off flying. He has 2 of them now. One a show car, the other a daily driv...

Re: L-16A 7BCM-73 USAF 47-859
Christmas came early. While I don't intend to ever run the plane with fuel injection. I now have all the stuff to make it original if it ever goes to a museum somewhere. We have hoped the Air Force Museum would get a L-16 at some point. Might have to fix that sometime. http://i218.photobucket.com/al...

Re: Champ with control wheel and stick
Richard, It's not a Lancer. It is a 7HC DX Champ. O-290 is all original. It has a yoke in front, stick in back.

Never been around a Lancer. Probably be afraid to fly one too. David J./Jasper GA

Re: Champ with control wheel and stick
Buddy of mine has one. Probably be for sale in the spring. Factory yoke in front, stick in back. Certified for 2 small folks in the back. O-290-D for power. Heavy beast. Empty weight over 1200 lbs. But flies nice, and likes gas. Not real fast. His is a 1963. David J./Jasper, GA

Re: four nutplates under floorboard
Jeff, are they to mount Scott master cylinders on top of the floor? Some 60's Champs had them. A friend has a 1963 7HC and it is set up that way. David J./Jasper GA

Re: L-16A 7BCM-73 USAF 47-859
OK you old guys. Looking into the interior color for L-16's again. Lloyd Thompson is going thru his stuff looking for interior pieces with some original color on them. While doing research we found this letter from John Houser in 1991 discussing "Roxalin #13894 Flexible". Can't find anythi...
