Static Line

Post by Seatabria »

I am looking for any information that is available on the adjustable :?: ring that is located just forward of the static port on Champ aircraft. The aircraft I have is missing this ring and I need to know its dimensions (diameter & width) and recommended location on the static line attached to the jury strut. Any info would be appreciated.

Disk on static tube

Post by rogerj »

Hi,
The disk on my Champ measures .508" o.d. x .196" wide, including paint.
It also has a set screw which appears to be a #4 for securing at 1/2" forward of the holes. I would think the disk is made of brass, same as the tube, to eliminate galvanic corrosion. Also, stainless steel should be a good choice for the screw for the same reason.
Hope this is sufficient info.
With regards,

I don't have this piece on my Champ. I have not noticed any difference in airspeeds between the aircraft one and my GPS. Well, not any large difference anyways.
Is this piece required?

I have one on mine.

The static line is disconnected under the panel, though, as the ASI and altimeter both lie madly when the line is connected. I can't move the disc, as the screw is rusted in adn the slot has been destroyed. I'd have to get the cut-off wheel on the Dremel to remove it.

I use cabin ambient air pressure as my static source; it works well.

I have one on mine as well. Have not needed to move it but with a Chief or Champ, who cares about airspeed anyway!

If needed I would try to adjust it to make the airspeed reading accurate at lower rather than higher airspeed. Need the airspeed indicator to be correct when close to stall speed more than I will ever care about cruise speed.
