Here's a question regarding the 'wide rear seat". Is the purpose of the wide rear seat because some people have a 'wide rear seat' ? Or was the purpose to put two 'narrow rear seat people' in the wide rear seat? Knowing that you actually can't put two people of any size in the same seat belt legally (I think).

BTW: My Champ has a wide rear seat but I have a narrow rear seat :? .

Just wondering!

Wide Rear Seat

The wide rear seat in the Champ can leagally only provide added room / comfort as the Champ is certified only as a 2 place aircraft, on the other hand the Piper J5 and PA12's are certified as 3 place aircraft thus 2 pass. can be strapped into the rear seat and yes there is a legal 2 person seat belt it has to be approved for 1500 lbs and of course long enough to go over 2 pass.

My 7AC has the wide rear seat and for comfort its great. The belt issue was addressed by an AC if I remember correct. It allows the use of one belt.
The 7HC was the only 3 passenger Champ that I can think of.

It was only my poor attempt at a joke :? . By seriously, the wide rear seat is more comfortable. I don't get to sit back there much though and if I do I usually sit on a boat cushion for better visability. I have a friend who owns a Husky. Great plane, but getting into the rear seat is like putting on "OJ's" glove.
