I am curious as how the Aeronca Sedan's wings are built. They have a single strut, so they must be sheeted with aluminum. Do they also have aluminum spar, or are they wood, like the Champs and Chiefs???? Are the fuselages made of tubing? What kind of speed do they deliver? Looks like a very nice (and pretty) plane.
Mike
Just curious....
Mike,
Believe that the wings are made much like most of the modern planes, with sheet aluminum and all metal parts inside, and the fuselage is just like the Chief or Champ, being made with metal tubing and wood formers, then covered with fabric.
If anyone has any photos, pls chime in here!

cpt kelly- they are an under valued plane. two problems..they made too few of them ( someone help me with the numbers) and they are a tad underpowered (C-145) They are awesome with the 180 lycoming upgrad. It kind of reminds me of the p-51 mustang story, when it came out with the american allison engine and was o.k. but when the put the rolls-royce in, it became the legend. I think the combination of the aluminum wing and the rag and tube fuselage is the best of both worlds. The aluminun wings can take the abuse of sitting outdoors while the fuselage has outstanding crash strength compared with semi-monoque design. (spelling?) It flies at 95-110 depending on the prop. It is very wide and comfortable, so you don't notice how slow your going!! haha It really should be built again with a 180 lycoming or the 210 continental
Curiosity Killed the Cat!
I have REALLY mixed emotions on how to reply to this post but here goes!
What do you think I have been doing for the last 7 years and investing $300,000.00 + in the Sedan?
My efforts seem to be lost on the masses.
The factory has been reopened since July of 2000. This is what I do, This has been the sole force behind all my efforts and I have been trying (unsuccessfully I might add!) to get Sedan owners to realize this. If I don't have your support I can't move forward with more parts, assemblies or NEW SEDANS.
I have PMA for the entire airplane. I have all the data; I could build a new Sedan in the morning if I thought that someone would buy it.
We have all the approvals needed to build a new Sedan with the 180 HP engine, 80" constant speed or 82" fixed pitch prop, extended baggage, seaplane doors, sliding seats, FLAPS, leaf spring tail wheel with an 8" or 10" tail wheel, metal fuel tanks, plus a lot more. The only thing that the new owner would have to do is pick out the colors and interior trim he/she would like.
Cost for the new plane would be competitive with the Cub Crafters Top Cub.
You tell me what you want to do. I'm all ears.

When all else fails, go to the source. Factory Approved parts and data will get you back in the air.

I am new to this Sedan stuff. I guess the problem is, like Burl states, there are so of them around that no-one knows much about them. I have been trying to research the Sedan and its specs, there sure isn't much info out there.
I would love see how one preforms with the 180/210Hp and flaps. I would think it would be like a Maule or a SC. But I sure like the looks of the Sedan....looks like a Champ on Steroids!!!

As you both noticed, information about the Sedan isn't easily found. That is one of the reasons, why I recently set up a website about our restoration. Nothing big, just some history, technical information and pictures. One of them even shows a wing with the skin removed; did that especially for Mike!
Hope, you enjoy it: www.n1331h.com
