Does anyone here have them on their Champ?

Stknrdr, (a name would be nice, we are a friendly group here)

The search engine is your friend on this bulletin board. We have a couple of posts on the VG's and everyone I have seen says that they work very well if you are looking to improve your low speed handling and safety. To tell the truth I am thinking of buying some!

From what I have heard they make the airplane very smooth and stable down to speeds another 8-10 mph slower than normal, which can make for a very short landing or as well a nice short take off run.

Frankly I am not real happy with the search engine here, but its better than nothing and thats what we had before we revamped the bulletin board a couple of years ago.

Limit your search to "vortex" and it will bring up what you need. If you put "vortex generators" then you are going to get all sorts of hits on generators and such, so its better to limit it and go from there.

Good find and nice to know.

I have to tell you guys that once we went over 5000 posts and became the most visited Aeronca site on the internet, the "Google bots" (google robots that scan websites for info for their search engine) have been on the bulletin board every day, if not every hour. There are 4 of them on right now...

We are now at almost 11 posts a day and growing with every month, so a lot of good info here. How I wish I had a resource like this when I was restoring my first Aeronca way back in 1979...

Hello Everyone,

About a month ago I installed Micro Aero vortex generators on my 7EC. I offer the following observations: The airplane is definitely more stable at low airspeeds; at slow airspeeds i.e. 50mph you have good control authority such as you have at 70mph; you land slower; the takeoff roll is much shorter with the lift off slower airspeed; the stall speed has lowered about 5mph; no decrease in cruise airspeed; no problem slipping the airplane, it handled the same as without the vortex generators.
Over all, the airplane handles much better and feel that is is much safer on takeoffs and landings since your ground roll and speed are greatly reduced. For example, I went to the Napa airport last weekend where they were reporting 18G23 with the wind coming 30 degrees from the right, the airplane handled very well, touched down with a ground speed of about 15 mph which meant ground handling was very easy! The takeoff was similiar, short ground roll and low ground speed at liftoff.
Bottom line: I would recommend the generators.

My VG kit arrived Friday--going to put them on soon on my Champ. I have them on my 182 and they take the nose heaviness out of it on landing -- most folks can't stand to see "0" airspeed with power on and still making turns.

Now, I dont knock VGs one bit, heck, we put them on High Country Explorers standard. They are very nice.

Same time frame every 2 years for the last 20-30 years. ACA really should make this as there is simply no other place that you can find 3-500 Aeronca people and prospective buyers in one place.

If ACA is NOT going to have at least one airplane there, pls let us know so we can try to make other arrangements. At the Cactus fly-in here in Arizona we had 3 ACA airplanes on display. Middletown hopefully will be as good...
