I just saw the link to Matt Sieber's Sedan restoration website on another thread and had to post something here.
After looking at the photos I realized that this airplane is going to be the nicest Sedan that I have ever seen and possibly the nicest one ever built! The quality of the welds, the detailing on every photo that is posted is absolutely the best I have ever seen.
Everyone should be afraid as this airplane will win a lot of awards and make every other Sedan in the field wish that they were restored like this one was!

How ironic! I was just looking at his site last night. Beautiful plane. I just recently started looking at the Sedans. Never really knew much about them until I saw one listed on ebay that had floats and wheels. It went in the $30's. Seemed like a very cheap price if it was in any shape at all.
My problem is I only have a 1000 ft strip and from what a fellow contributer on this site has told me, this would be marginal for the Sedan. I already have a margin plane that performs similar to the Sedan....a 1960 172A. Its been a great plane and I have owned it for 20 years but the time has come to sell it and get something I can keep at my farm. A C180 is to thirsty for me to fly. And I already have a nice Champ but I need more load capability.
Wonder how one would perform with the 180HP?

A 180 hp machine and a climb prop would be excellent for your application. You think that all these bush pilots in Alaska and Canada have 1000 foot strips? Hell no, they have short gravel strips that they drag it into and force it back into the air, so yes it would be possible.
It would sacrifice some airspeed in the cruise mode if the plane was tailored to short fields with a climb prop, but thats life and remember that the stock engine on a Sedan is legal for automotive fuel so that saves a bit on operating costs should the owner go that route.
