...just thought I'd show a Before & After photo of my panel.

When I was working on my layout, I collected photos for ideas
and thought someone else could benefit from them.
It's just a collection and nothing else, (that came from everywhere)

Take a look, (some are creepy, some cool) it might make you feel good about your panel,
or might make you want to order a new Blank.

Jim,

Really like the new look. Went from a hodge podge to very organized and uncluttered. Like the color as well.

Ron, ...got the blank from Wag-Aero, part# 5-150 and it's FAA/PMA'd. ($72.)

This one (photo below) is the one to get, DO NOT get blank panel part # M-172-200.

They might still have a few of those remaining, I was told by Wag that the Aircraft that was used as a pattern for that blank was modified, which made it a terrible fit.

The one thing that I noticed was on the old panel the starter handle was on the left side of the panel. Once re-configured its been moved to the other side of the panel. Imagine trying to pull the handle to start the engine in the old position, then where it is now, while keeping one hand on the throttle and the other on the starter handle.

Jim did a very nice job here!

Your new panel looks great !

I went through your collection of panel photos, and thought there sure were some strange ones in there... Looking at some of the cleaner ones makes me want to order up a blank and try updating mine... We'll see. I wouldn't mind consolidating some of what Ive got, and cleaning up the general "look" of things.

thanks for lookin' at the collection, ....you'll definitely spend as much time planning as doing.
I'd say, get the blank, plan & layout before taking yours down.

Incidently, I decided to completely re-do my panel again...

Not to change the direction on the thread but why is the shipping costs on a lot of stuff on EBAY so stinking high? I've never sold anything on EBAY, just bought stuff but that panel can't weigh anymore than a couple of pounds yet they want $25 for shipping and handling. Seems kind of steep to me. For you guys that sell stuff on EBAY, is it up to you what you charge to ship and "handle" it?

Ron,

Very simple. Ebay has been screwing sellers recently by increasing their fees for listing articles for no added benefit to the sellers, only profit for Ebay. The sellers are not stupid and started increasing their shipping prices and lowering the sale prices.

You see, Ebay does not get a percentage off of the shipping costs, only off of the sales price. This way the seller makes more money by paying less comission, Ebay gets screwed (a good thing IMHO) and the person buying the article pays about the same price.

Ebay is very good at getting sellers and buyers together but if there is the smallest of problems they are worthless at tits on a boar hog at helping resolve the issue. Customer service is absolutely worthless and their Pay Pal division is even worse! I use both but if there was an alternative would sure use it as neither have an idea what it is like to take care of their customers.

I am looking into a new panel for an 11CC Chief and suspect that a chief panel is similar to a Champ panel only wider. My original panel has multiple additional instrument holes and pop rivets.

What I am thinking is that the blank Champ panel could be bought from Wag-Aero and a formed insert Tig Welded in to get the appropriate width. I have access to a good tig welder. I was wondering if someone could post the dimensions of the wag champ panel so I can compare to my Chief panel

Shep, ...looking back at my drawings,
it appears the blank I received from Wag was 31" wide (tip to tip) before trimming both ends to fit,
after trimming it was 28 5/8".

I have his catalog and will look. I remember seeing fiberglass layups of panels but not stamped aluminum which I would prefer. A complete chief panel went for around $550 on EBay about 2 months ago - I just need the top piece.

My panel is about 35 1/2" wide. I have to check to see if the blank panel has cut outs for the cabane tubes. They are different on a chief.
