Is it possible that the 'pulley' is installed backward (upside-down?)? If so, then the cotter pin retainer would be on the correct side.

....???
The pin is in the housing, if you turn the pulley over, the pin is still in the front. My question is...
why isn't there a pin also in the back as there is in the front.
If you need one in the front, why don't you need one in the back?

It's a geometry issue. The rear cable (aka the Ballance Cable) always has tention on it because it's connected directly to each bellcrank without snaking through pullings or other diversions. Where as the lead cable (connects the stick to the bellcranks) has a mixing ratio so the ailerons move different amounts in their respetive direction: 28' UP and 18' DOWN. In simple terms; the rear cable is always tight and the front can get loose.

Grumps can probably describe it better.

Oh, it's an AN380-6-10 cotter pin, but you may not be able to find one that big in diameter. In that case use an AN380-4-10; the same you use on axel nuts.

JK, Nate is right on track. The way the front cable gets loose is due to the control stick(s) being pushed futher after the stop is felt.

Thanks, that makes sense, (works for me).
On the Cotter pin...I did have difficulty finding the same size as the old one,
the new one is slightly smaller but does serves the purpose.

Jim,
I use the MS24665-520. It's a tough pin to install but works well. If you can't find one local I can send you a couple.

Paul, ...thanks for the offer, is that a (regular) cotter pin?
If my wing is uncovered, what makes it tough to install?

Jim,
It's a Stainless pin. The large diameter and the material make it tough to bend. In the past people have installed this pin without trimming to size first. Once the easy side is bent it's tough to cut the opposite side.

Paul, ...thanks again for the offer,
I had to order several other items from Spruce and they had the -518, I'm assuming that's "ever-so-slightly" shorter,
which should be OK. ...do you agree? Jim

Jim,
The -518 are 2 5/8" and the -520 are 3".
