advice on headsets please!

I sold my champ with two dave clark headsets. Now....I need two. Need advice on what to buy and what model. Your advice would be very helpful. (The Dave clarks were voice activated and worked very well) Thanks ,jim pacquin

I have six sets of David Clark headsets, and never have been dissatisified. My next set will also be a DC.
Just my 2c worth.

Its hard to beat a DC. I also have several Telex's (work headsets) and a Bose noise canceling (also work related) but seem to end up using the DC in the Aeronca.

The Bose is nice but overkill for the Aeronca IMHO.... and too pricey as well.

I have had two DC 10-40s since the early 90s. A couple of years ago, I converted one set to noise canceling. Works just fine.

I am using the Lightspeed twenty 3Gs. They have the active noise reduction and are very reliable and a huge difference over another set of ANR Milleniums I had before. The price is a good deal less than DCs.

I've had a couple different brands but use Lightspeed exclusively now. They work great and the price is right. Great customer service also.

DC 10-40's for 15 years, then converted them to ANR and love them even more. But after trying a set of Zulu's the other day, I'm about to get a set. 10 times better than Bose and a $100 bucks cheaper!

at mayville n.y. sundays are busy, gliders and what ever landing and taking off. some do not have radios so I try not to fly when all this is going on as its DANGEROUS. Then theres the smooth old pro who says "Ahhhhh 3245 downwind for 31" not mentioning what airport . Says it fast too,( a real idiot.) I always declare 2 miles out or so, then entering downwind, etc. It seems polite and certainly is sane. I think statistics bear me out that alot of fatalities occur due to "old pro types." I just need a working headset for mayville and occasional jaunt into controlled field. Sigtronics any good?

See if you can find any local dealer and try the various flavors out. I took two different years of going to Oshkosh trying every headset on the market. Was pretty much expecting to buy the Bose before I got there from reading all the rave reviews. I ended up with the Lightspeeds because they seemed to fit ME well, were comfortable, and for my ears were every bit as good as the raved about Bose. Ended up buying the 20-3G and another set the next year, which was the 15 XLc for a passenger headset. The 15 was cheaper but works as good as the more expensive 20-3G. Actually I end up using it more than the 20-3G because it is slightly smaller.

So , go try a few models and see what works for YOU.

Agree with Keith and see what fits you and your noggin. There are a lot of differences out there.

In the Champ, if I need the radio, I use the old (15 years, at least) blue Sigitronics. Most of the time, for hearing protection, I use Home Depot's ear plugs (100 for about 6 bucks) and no headset at all. However, in my Mooney, or if active noise reduction is needed, I enjoy Lighspeed, mainly for their incredible excellent customer service and no detectable difference with more expenses headsets.

bought dave clarks 10-13's or something like that. VERY GOOD! work great.
