It is time to make a go/no go decision. My plan, as I posted earlier, is to fly my VFR only 1947 Bonanza from Payson, AZ to Middletown, OH. The weather just isn't cooperating for such a trip. It is an easy decision to cancel because of weather but my wife and I are really disappointed we won’t be there.

Everybody have a good time and I will look forward to seeing the pictures that will be posted and the banter back and forth about what all is going on there.

I guess I now have to place my WagAero order via the telephone instead of directly with Mike Utley at the convention.

Regards

Anyone coming to the fly-in who smokes cigars? Not that I have been flying overseas but I might bring some "special" smokes to share with the "special jet fuel" that Nathan is bringing from Georgia!

Let me know if you gents would enjoy one. I do not have an unlimited supply but glad to share with friends.

Flying ourselves is half the fun of the trip. I would rather burn the fuel instead of paying for someone else to burn it.

Wish I did not need to go on Tuesday, would fly in the right seat with you guys. I have more IFR time than anyone needs and could help if needed...

I too am instrument rated, but the airplane is strictly VFR, no heated pitot tube. It also has just one nav/com. Not really a good IFR platform. I thought of installing a heated pitot tube but then the avionics aren't up to what they need to be to be safe in IMC.

Have a good time. We had planned on leaving Tuesday and arrive in Middletown Wednesday morning.

Weather looks pretty poor here too for trip down. I'll probably be flying Mom's Pontiac instead of the Champ unless the prognosis changes. Either way we'll be there. I'm not what you call a 'comfortable flyer' in marginal conditions: i.e. rain, thunderbumpers and wind  .

Are we going to have power at the main tent? I got a surprise, but it needs 110v.

Robert,

Sure hope that you could rethink the decision to stay at home. I just flew over the same route you would take but on the airlines and not one cloud until we started letting down in Columbus Ohio.

I flew SWA there then drove 80 miles West to Middletown. Its severe clear here and supposed to stay this way for 3-4 days then a small front coming through.

There is no weather between you and Arizona at this time.

Nathan,

There may be power at the tent. Todd Trainor mentioned that he might bring a generator with him.

Just for you Nate! All the power you want, until Joe's knee gives out from peddling. Yes, there is 110v.

What a Great Fly-In!
The Georgia Boy's (and girl; Miss Kristi) had a blast. I'm just about recovered from the weeked. :D A HUGE thanks to the NAA and the folk at Aeronca Inc. for all the effort they put into this event. In my eye's, it couldn't have been done any better. Shaking hands with friends I've never seen before was great, and strengthened friendships that will grow for years.

Joe, Jody, Brian, Duane, Kevin, Jim and all the rest; Thank You!
