New Fuel Valve

Gus,

If the valve does not work, pls get with Mike Utley and either get it fixed or send it back.

I seem to remember a similar problem but I think I figured a way to reverse it. Damn, I hate getting old but perfer that to the alternative.

It works fine, it just turns the wrong way. I thought I could reverse it but so far haven't taken the time to dig into the possibility.

We've had a few medical problems here lately so the Champ is kind of in limbo right now. It will probably be fall before I get it back into the air but I will be over to see you, Dennis, when I do.

It always amuses me to hear you young whippersnappers talk about getting old!!

Mike,

Thanks, I'll do that if I find it is the source of the leak. Right now it is going to stay installed until the weather gets too cold for flying. I have been grounded too long.

I haven't actually found for sure that it is the source of the leak, I bought the other valve just in case and also because it is a ball valve.

Mike,

I found today that if I pushed slightly on the fuel valve handle at the valve (not the remote handle)when I closed it it no longer leaked. It squeaked when I did that so I assume it could use a bit of fuel proof lube, don't think I have any on hand now though.

I also removed the gascolator bowl for the first time and found no screen of any type? Is this normal, I've removed hundreds of these thingson other machines and never found one without a screen of some type?

I removed and cleaned the thimble shaped screen at the carb inlet and it was absolutely clean.

You are right, there should be a screen in the top of the gascolator, if you have the glass bowl type a farm tractor store "TSC' will have them.

The fuel lube works wonders, check at the airport someone should have some, buying a new tube will get you enough for the whole state for the next 20 years.

When you said left / right on the oil sump was that looking from the pilots seat?

Yes, looking from the pilot's seat. I always consider left and right on any machine as looking from the rear.

I had a little dab of fuelube given to me at one time by my AI but don't know where I put it, a common problem of mine.

Joe,

One of my biggest problems is I have two hangars/shops. The old one now is full of vehicles and the Champ is in the newer one. I never know for sure which one has what.

To make matters worse I also have two other large metal sheds full of odds and ends of old vehicles so I never know where I last laid down a tool. I get lost of exercise walking between the four buildings looking for a tool. I clearly have more machines than I can possible manage, quite a few awaiting restorations that will never happen.

At my age, though, it is probably good for me even though it really frustrates rush jobs.
