Chief rear fuel guage

Quick and easy way to check this out is to look on the back of your fuselage.



Sorry but the best photo that I have of a rear part of the fuselage had to have a cute blonde in it as well!

If you look even with the rear of the wing, you will see the fuel cap for the aux tank. 90% of the time its on the right side but I have seen them on the left hand side on some airplanes. If you have the cap on the outside, then you have an aux tank installed.

My Chief does not have an aux tank. On rare occasions it would be nice. However, with an A65, I've got 3+30 until the engine quits. My bladder gives up before that . The guy that rebuilt mine before I had it, said he just didn't want the extra weight, plumbing, leaks, etc for something he would seldom use. I pretty much agree. However, with an C85 (is that what you have), then.....rog

I messed with the headliner above the baggage area and did find an area that had a thin seemed to be an area to cut out for the gauge thing.

I didnt have the time to get the cover off to take a look, but it didnt feel like there was anything back of the material except a tank. I dont know how far the guage would travel from the tank, but would have to be some in orer to get thru the material there. would of course need to secure some kind of gromet to go around the guage so it would look good.

I'm not sure I need a guage at this point in time, but it is a thought and would be nice to have, if it didnt leak like a lot of people are saying it will by and by. guess everything will actually.

How about a fuel cap outside the fabric? If it has a cap, and you can feel something round back there, then it sounds like you have an Aux tank back there.

I DO HAVE AN AUX FUEL TANK, JUST NO GUAGE FOR IT ON THE INSIDE
ABOVE THE BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT. DONT BELIEVE ITS NECESSARY
AND FIGURE TO JUST FORGO THE GUAGE AND KEEP PROBLEMS TO A
MINIMUM. LONG AS I KNOW IT WAS FULL BEFORE TAKING OFF, I'M
IN GOOD SHAPE. EMPTY IT WHEN THE MAIN IS HALF EMPTY OR HALF FULL. DEPENDING ON HOW YOU LOOK AT THINGS. LATER, LEE B.

I bet that you do have a gauge, but someone did not cut out the headliner to show it. When you rub your hand along the back of the headliner do you feel something round in the middle of the area? Look at the photos on the previous page and see if you can feel it.

If you have a tank then you should have the gauge there.
