Who do you guys think could beat Obamma in the next election? I think, if you could get him to run, Colin Powell. Who do you think would have a chance? I'm not soliciting a flame war.....

Someone who is as telegenic and as good of a speaker as Obama. My eyeball poll tells me that the better looking candidate has won the vast majority of presidential elections going back to 1960.

To differentiate him/herself, the candidate would need to have more centrist views than Obama.

Regardless of these hypotheticals, let's hope Obama turns out to be a great president. Not that I'm expecting that.

Far too early to tell. Obama could end up being a JFK kind of president, or a Jimmy Carter.

I'm not afraid to say, publicly, that I'm a right wing Repub., although not a member of the religious right (last time I checked, Catholics didn't qualify for that group).

Three years from now, Obama could be either unbeatable, or beatable by a high school kid. If he keeps his focus centrist, my guess is at this stage, and of course only a guess, he'll be tremendously popular.

The Repub party is in disarray - no clear leader, no clear message or theme.

If Obama really screws up, we'll see 1994 all over again, and the Repubs will take back control of Congress, or close to it.

How's that for "crystal balling it"?

He passed up his chance in 1996, and again in 2000. By 2012, he'll be a faded memory to most people.

Remember, his glory year, in Gulf War I was 1991 - by 2012, it'll be 21 years since then. He's not getting any younger, either.

And, after endorsing Obama this year, I see no way the party would ever back him. Same thing happened when McCain really wanted Lieberman as a running mate this time - no way a party will back the guy who ran against them 8 years earlier.

I would have voted for McCain in 2000. When his own party started spreading lies about him (black illigitimate child, unstable due to imprisionment) I said thats as low as I go. This time he reversed course 180 degrees and embraced all of what he originally opposed! Then on top of all that, Sarah arrived and that finished it for me. As for Obama, Columbia, Harvard Law School, Head of The Harvard Law Review, top in his class, well liked by his peers, good athlete (verses being a cheer leader at a very elite boarding school and doing very poorly at Yale). Then we have Colin Powell. A good soldier and a good man...BUT....when he decided to appear before congress with his little vials of so called Anthrax and misstated the real use of the so called tractor trailer "Biological trucks" I was done. He was treated poorly by his president and vice president and deserved better. He was USED! Thank God that in a month or so it will be over. jp

Hope you are happy in a couple of years, not to mention four when his term is done.

I still want to see the valid birth certificate of Obama, as well as his explanation of who paid for his education in Columbia, Harvard et al. He seems to come up with bundles of money out of the blue to get an education when no one else is able, with no explanation where it came from.

Far too many unanswered questions about someone who has been known far too little time for me.

I do not like McCain very much but he was light years ahead of Obama in many ways. Palin was a good choice IMHO.

None of this matters because ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN decided this election. Its now come out that all the news networks slanted their broadcasts heavily in the liberal direction. I hope that their action do not doom our country and its people when the next terrorist attack happens.

Well, might as well pop in here: Obama was not my guy and as a conservative I kind of held my nose and voted for the other guy. Huckabee would have probably been my choice. I also like Palin. Having said that and as long as Obama is in, I hope he does well. The subprime morgage is a mess created by giving loans to people who never should have been able to take out loans of the amounts they were able to get. People (and companies for that matter) need to be responsible for their actions and no way should the government have to bail anyone out but money talks. I have a lot of questions regarding Obama but will take a wait and see attitude. I am at least glad this country has progressed past the 'skin color' test anyway. Most people I know are not racist contrary to popular belief.

Regarding "W" and his military time. He kind of came under the same situation as I did in the early 1960's. When I was ready to leave Alaska I still had about 6 months to go on my current enlistment but they told me because they had a number of people in my job classification I had to either reenlist or extend for another 6 months (to make a year) or take a early discharge. As I was thinking of college at the time, I decided to get out. So technically in someone's eyes I probably didn't finish my 4 year obligation but I have the honorable discharge to prove it. Plus, I stayed in the reserve for another three years anyway. This is much the same as "W" as he was trained as a F102 pilot and they were being phased out near the end of his obligation time and Vietnam was winding down so there was no sense to retrain into another catagory (probably F106) with only a year ro so left. I'm quite sure (and no one has proven different) that he has a honorable discharge from the Texas Air Guard like anyone else who served. Has he made mistakes as president? Of course! All presidents make mistakes and sometimes they listen to the wrong people or get poor advice. I was in Alaska when Eisenhower was insisting that we weren't overflying Russia unitil Powers and the U2 got shot down. JFK had the Bay of Pigs. Carter (hate to admit I voted for him) almost ruined the economy and couldn't figure out how to deal with Iran.

Anyway, I hope the best for Obama and the country. Would you like me to start on why I think we need term limits for congress? .

Obama was educated on scholarships. (He was bright!) His birthcertificate has been gone over time and again and it shows a very normal Hawaian birth certif. He was accused of being a muslim early on which was also trash.( He attended a catholic school in Hawaii.) Personally I am enthused about him. As H.L. Mencken once stated "Nature abhors an idiot" which is what we currently have. Personally I was unable to cut short my 4 years in the airforce by simply not showing up. Pilot training at that time was over a million, hard to tell how much WE invested in dubya who checked the box "I do not wish to serve in Vietnam." Not NEARLY enough has been said about the current administration but there may be ALOT more said by courts in the next two years. If your opinions are generated by a drug addict like rush limberger or a gas machine like bill o-really? your in trouble!

Not sure that he will be in office that long. There are a lot of "good old boys" in Alabama, Georgia and Louisana who do not feel comfortable with his being elected and they are a good shot.

Frankly if Obama came to Middletown I would not. Nor would a large number of our members IMHO. He is so anti-private aviation and the 2nd admendment that I will never have anything to do with him, and will be counting the days until his term in office is over. I just hope that we and our Aeronca's survive...

Please no more. I have been gagging too much this morning already. If the birth certificate is a done deal, they why isnt he showing it to the public and press. Show it and be done with it, but so far he refuses to do so. Why???? As well there is more to the question of where his educational funds came from. Just wait, it will come out along the way.

Totally agree with term limits and feel that every person should be limited to two terms total in ANY govt office. After that you go back home and GET A REAL JOB, not suck off of the public tit like so many in our govt have been doing all these years.

As well for the office of the President, make it a single term of 6 years, with no possiblity of re-election. That way you get in there and work, and not worry about getting elected again.

One last thing. Has everyone thought out the situation we now have in our hands?

Obama is taken out off office (shot, heart attack etc)
Biden becomes President
Biden has had major health issues (heart problems)

Who is now the VP? Nancy Peloisi is who! Can you say snake in the grass?

Biden passes after taking the office and now Nancy is in the President's seat. That would make a lot of us either move from the country or sharpen up some of our survival skills.

Seriously, term limits, except for Pres., are awful. You simply ensure that you have a string of rookies, one after another running everything.

We have term limits in Ohio, and most of us wish we didn't. We've lost some really good office holders because of the term limits.
