Thanks Del,
Your always welcome at Red Sky. Thats exactly the reason we opened the school. It allows people access to a different area of flying. If we can help you in your restoration effort, let us know. The senior member of our maintenance staff (Father-in-Law) was around when Sacramento Sky Ranch was unloading Aeronca's from box cars.
The coffee's aways on and the stories are always, well, flying.

David: You indicated that you have a drawing that gives reference to the Aviation Products Inc tailwheel # 6131 installation on a older Champ. The one that helped provide comfort to your IA that was installing it.
Would it be possible to obtain a copy of that drawing? I would like to peek at it.

Thanks, Del

Aviation Products Tailwheel

Post by DRP »

I posted the following in the spring of 2007. It specifies the ACA drawing that substitutes the Aviation Products tailwheel for the "New Champ." I have not changed the tailwheel on my '58 Champion Champ yet, but may do so this spring.

I hope this is helpful...

Dan

Paul, et al...

Here is some interesting information; I hope it will be helpful to others too.

Today I spoke with Karen at Aviation Products, (805-646-6042,) re: their "Heavy Duty," double fork, full swivel, steerable tailwheel. I asked if it was approved for use on a 7EC. She noted that their primary market interest was homebuilders, but that recently American Champion Aircraft had been ordering that tailwheel for installation on their aircraft!

I then placed a call to ACA, (262-534-6315,) and left a voicemail for Jody in Technical Services. He promptly returned my call and said that they had revised the drawings for the 7EC to specify that tailwheel! (Drawing No. 3-486, Model No. 7EC, DCN No. AC-1353, first issued on 05/17/07) The ADD note states "Aviation Products 6131 alt. for AVOX 3000." How about that for timing!

I assume that this means if my tailwheel tire and bearings are found to be too "tired," that I could change over to this tailwheel assembly with a logbook entry and A&P signoff.

I second that on the Aviation Products tailwheel. I had the single fork on a Pitts for 280 hours. They have some other good products as well. I like their little magazine they publish, good reading for 14 dollars a year.
