My Champ project came with hydraulic brakes. The brakes (cleveland C-2000-H), and the wheels (cleveland C-38500-H) that are installed are fortunately listed on the original Type Certificate A-759.
The master cylinders are straight off a J-3 Cub...Scott 45-12484. There are these massive rods that connect the original front heel brakes to the aft mounted cylinders. The system is very ugly, plus it crosses at an angle from front to back, eating up a lot of your floor space.
Without spending a ton, what are my options. I could probably trade or sell the whole package for mechanical brakes (with their own problems) or is there a better option?
If it were your restoration, what would you guys do? I am scheduled to go into powder coat in a week. If I need to weld brackets, now is the time.
If anyone wants a great set of Cleveland wheels and brakes, let me know. I would really prefer to put the Champ back to cable brakes.
MY Champ Brakes- Come on Guys, I need to get this resolved.

Champ brake master cyl.
Hi sounds like the hyd brakes you have are the 7EC brakes using the Scott master cylinders. Heres a picture of Cleveland masters mounted un the floor boards makes for a nice set up but will regiure a 377 / field approval.

This is not my Champ just a picture of an installation.

Wag Aero...
Wag Aero's Cleveland heel brake kit works just fine. We have them on Gail's Champ. The stock mechanical brake setup pretty much suck on Champs. I thought about the conversion long and hard before buying it, but in the end, I thought Gail's nice Champ was worth more than a $3000 brake kit. Sure is nice to be able to stop when you want too, and handle cross winds like a "Champ"....

My Champ came with hyd Clevelands also and I wasn't too happy, I wish it still had the cable brakes. I had them on my other Champ and they worked fine.
My brake system is all under the floorboards. I assume it is a Cleveland STC but may be a WagAero mod for all I know.
I can imagine what a mess it would be on top of the boards.
