7AC IGNITION SWITCH OVERHAUL ?

Anybody aware of somebody that can overhaul the magneto ignition switch of a 7AC (1946 Champ). My original switch was failing (occasionally) to turn OFF. I have installed (hopefully temporary) a new ACS (PN 11-03176), but would love to go back to the original.

My switch is a simpler mechanism than the one pictured: has no springs at all, but just little "bumbs" inside. I get the impression that the bumps are getting smoothed out by time and usage. About 6 months ago we cleaned it and reinstalled it, without finding any obvious cause for the problem. It worked ok until now.

There is an AD on one of the switches applicable for the Champ. It was issued to prevent the exact problem you describe. Your inspector should have a copy.
Many of the defective items are returning to the antique fleet via Ebay and such. Be careful what you bid on and keep a close working relationship with your inspector.

As far as I can tell, the switch is the original 1946 7AC switch. It is at the hangar. I will take pictures of it and send them to you (not earlier than this weekend). I appreciate your curiosity.

My original magneto switch is a "Briggs and Stratton". My AP replaced it with a ACS A-510-1. I took some pictures today. Have to figure out how to send them in the computer.

This switch could be subject to AD 50-04-01. It should be complied with at 100 hr intervals.

Thank you for the information on the AD. Seems that to continue to use the installed new switch is the practical decision. Safety overrules looks.

As most of us seem to be in the process of learning how to post avatars and images in our replies, I thought I would put together a few comments.

If you find something incorrect or an ommission please jump in and maybe we'll come up with a final version that will be acceptable.

IMAGE POSTING

1. Any images or avatars have to uploaded to a site that allows remote viewing such as www.photobucket.com - a free image hosting server.

Images should be kept to a 750 pixel width to accomodate people with their computers set to 1024 x 768 screen resolution - otherwise they have to keep scrolling back and forth to read the messages. See sample image at the bottom.

2. To post the image to NAA select the IMG option at the bottom of the picture.
Do this by highlighting the option by left clicking once.
Then right click - and COPY
Go to NAA - select where you want to put the image by left clicking once - then right click - then PASTE.
You will see a similar line as below

This is your image code.

3. Go to PREVIEW at the bottom of the screen and click it and you will see a Preview of your message.

4. Go to SUBMIT and left click and you are done.
