Brake Cables

Hello everyone, My 1946 chief with goodyears is in need of some new brake cables, Does anyone know where I can get 2 new COMPLETE assemblies? It seems every one has the inner cables but not the outer sheaths.. Thanks ,Tony....

I couldn't find the complete assembly and ended up using a motorcycle clutch cable housing that I had left over from replacing the clutch cable, and then getting some SS "aircraft quality " wire cable from my local Ace hardware and aircraft supply store. Needless to say, I certainly wouldn't use Ace cable for the control system, but for the brakes I'm quite satisfied.

Hi I know that WagAero has the Bowden casings for the Champ but didn't any listed for the Chief and I couldn't find any P/N for the Chief and they are problay different. The Champ part numbers are 1-2578-3 -4 and -6 one can go to the Wag web site and search by the P/N. What I used for my park brake cable is some bowden cable casing from a sports shop some have the casing in bulk and can be bought to any length one needs I used galvanized cable for the park brake (galvanized cable is stronger than SS so I went with it).

Thanks for the opinions, I think Univair is sending me the cables, I ordered them last night. I will either be flying by sunday, or frustrated...time will tell!

Believe that the cables from a Champ would be the same, just a bit longer. Should not be an issue to cut the housings shorter, and do the same with the inner cable.

I have a few stickers on the cable under the axel. wires starting to
break of course, but just a couple. letting me know I need to replace
the cables I guess.

Talk to someone who does ultralights and they will have the right diameter and number of strands in stock. Just get more than enough length, cut to fit, use the fittings from the old one. It was pretty easy and they have lasted 15 years so far without a strand coming loose.

I'd like to replace my brake cable assemblies on my Champ. The casings on the plane now are made of brass with galvy cables. The casing measures 23 1/2" long. They seem about an inch too short. Where can I find 1/4" Bowden cables made of brass? Calls to all the current suppliers tell me their casings are made of steel.
