Data Plate Information and Location

Does anyone have a picture of a completed data plate (simular to the one they sell at wagaero) as to what all information is on one. Thanks Mike[/b]

The plate they sell at Wag Aero (and on EBAY )is not correct for post war Champs as they were built at Middletown rather than Lunkin (spelling) Airport. Having said that, there are a bunch of aircraft displaying the Lunkin plate. Better than no plate at all, I guess.

TC should be something like "A-761" or whatever the type certificate number is for your airplane. Its not catagory.

Date built is not the year but the day that the aircraft was given its air worthyness certification.

Now for the big part. This Data-tag is NOT legal for any post-war Aeronca! Aeronca's built in Lunken were pre-war aircraft ONLY and if you get ramped by a FAA inspector who knows their stuff the airplane will be red tagged and grounded. That said, not many FAA types these days know this. Using this data-tag on a post-war Aeronca is up to you.

Just for grins and giggles what if a plane did not have a data plate in it ? What would be the easy way to get it right.

Put on the plate you can get and scratch out Lunkin.
I believe Noel Allard was making a " display" plate for the post war planes.

Then when your annual inspection comes up (or you get ramped) the airplane is grounded. Its part of any ramp check or annual inspection.

Like Paul says, you could scratch it out or paint over that part but as long as it says "Lunken" on it, its not right.

There are data plates being sold with Middletown printed on them. Two guys that I know of sell them. All you have to do is have the infomation printed on them. One guy is in Mn or Wis. and the other is in L.A (Lower Alabama).

So does anybody know where I can purchase a plate with Middletown?

I purchased the Lunken plate from Wag and about a month ago I got it engraved at the jewellery store
