Door Handles

I have seen pics of Chief door handles with the open end facing forward and some facing rearward. The service manual does not have a real good picture, but appears it show the handle facing rearward. Is this correct?

My '46 Chief appears original and the door handles point rearward.

Exterior pointing rearward
Interior pointing forward
