Rudder Fairings

Post by Terry B. »

Hey all,

I saw some pictures that DELCOM posted related to covering the airframe. I really like the "Fairing Patches" that are used where the rudder cables exit the fabric. Anyone know where they can be purchased? Don't see them in ASS or Wag-Aero Catalog. Also do they make smaller ones for the trim tab cables? Getting ready to slip on the envelope and trying to get my ducks in a row.

Thanks,

Terry

I just saw something like this in a WagAero circular I received in the mail. It's listed as in the Cub section as a naugahyde (spell?) patch. I think this is what you're looking for.

Terry:

I purchased them from ACA. I believe that they are for a Citabria. They really worked out well. I also purchased a Citabria heater vent. I can hardly even pull the heater on now with OAT @ 30 degrees. Let me know if I can help any more.

Terry,
I've also used a 'sea plane drain grommet' that I pushed up through a hole in a naughahyde (also spelling :? ) cover I glued to the fabric at the outlet. Both on the rudder outlet and the trim outlet. I modified it slightly so the cable doesn't ride on the plastic grommet but rather on the naughahyde.

Here's a picture of the rudder cable outlet. You can see I just put a seaplane drain under the outlet fabric patch and cut the drain so the cable runs on the fabric patch rather than on the seaplane drain surface. Not sure it would hurt anything but thought the fabric would cause less wear if any.
