Reviving the thread.

Am looking at getting in there early on the 10th (Saturday). Have sent an email to Al Gardner asking for information on the schedule.

For now here is some updated info:

More info as I receive it! Hope to see a lot of you over there in Yuma!

Joe,
Judy and I should be leaving here on Thursday. We plan to stop in SoCal somewhere to overnight. Any one have a suggestion? Should be in Yuma early Friday and leave Sunday morning.

I used to fly in and out of Thermal with my last job, and the people over there at Traditions Aviation were excellent, even having a crew car that they let me use when needed. It would be a short hop from there to Yuma.

I had thought about coming on Friday but did not really see that much going on with the schedule on Friday. If I had only two days to attend figured that Sat/Sunday might be better but if you get there and find otherwise please let me know.

Latest from Al in Yuma...

~~~~
Hey Joe, good to hear from you. I have answers!
All of the events are on Sat. (see Schedulle below) starting with the pancake breakfast at Lux-Air (the old Bet-Ko). Fly in the the main airport (KNYL). There is parking west of the FBO. The City of Yuma and the refueling car will be on display there and then moved downtown after the breakfast for display there. I will check on fuel and let you know asap.
Manager of the motel tells me she has heard from 3 people (I think) about room reservations, don't know the names.
EAA members will do everything in our power to make it a worthwhile trip for you guys. We are doing a practice breakfast tomorrow morning just to make sure we are ready for the 10th. Afterwards we are hoping to fly to Corona, CA, for the Aircraft Spruce Sale but weather doesn't look that great over there. Had clouds and RAINDROPS here today. Most unusual.
Albert
PS: I think we can get Aeronca pilots in to the evening dinner free, I'll check. Also, tower is often closed until late Sat. mornings so check ATIS 118.8. They are working on runway lighting so some may be closed.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
60th Anniversary Celebration of the Yuma Endurance Flight
7 a.m. to 12 p.m. - Fly-in and Pancake Breakfast (starting at 8 a.m.) hosted by Yuma EAA Chapter 590 at the LuxAir facilities of the Yuma International Airport.
11 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Endurance Days Celebration on Historic Main Street with films celebrating aviation week and children's activities focused on the celebration of flight.
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. - "Hell's Angels," a film by Howard Hughes showing at the Historic Yuma Theater
1:30 to 4:30 p.m. - "The Aviator" starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes showing at the Historic Yuma Theater.
5 to 8 p.m. - Recognition Dinner on Main Street with the Yuma Jaycees. Tickets cost $10. Call 210-2121 for more information.
"The Longest Flight: Yuma's Quest for the Future: Sixty Years Later," by Shirley Woodhouse Murdock and James A. Gillaspie, has been updated to mark the 60th anniversary and will be available for purchase at the events.
BTW, emailed with Al about his comment about the tower.
He said that the tower is often closed until sometime in the morning, so just fly in uncontrolled.
Just finished up work on the Sedan and test flight was excellent.
Who else is coming to Yuma?
Have heard that Matt and Monika are in the states and heading that direction. Craig MacVeigh is coming down from Seattle. Do not believe that Bill is going to make it from Alaska.
Who else???
Paul,
You were going to stop over on the way there. Assume that you will be getting there on Friday sometime?
Can you pls check in and let us know how things are there. Assume that there may not be much going on until Saturday.
Thx,
Joe
Joe,
I think I'll stop at San Diego, if I can make it that far.
Head down the east side of the LA basin and maybe come back through Laughlin NV.
Should be there on Friday, if I can get to a computer I'll send out some info. It looks like they are rolling out the red carpet for the Aeronca crowd.
Judy and I made the trip with no problems. Actually made the whole trip thanks to tail winds.
The parking is at Lux-Air and a bit of a taxi due to the size of this place.
I'm at the Coronado, with the Buick used for the refueling sitting proudly outside. Hope to see you here.
Yes, we are spending the big part of today in the Tucson junkyards and will head West to Yuma, later in the afternoon.
Intend to be part of the welcome committee for Joe and his Sedan, early tomorrow morning.... :D
