How do I find an original N # using a serial #.

Cliff,
I went over to the FAA site and used their search tools. It looks like it was 2116E when it was de-registered by Paul Peterson. This was in 1971 and the certificate was issued in 1951. This means that the only years not known were 1946-1951. You can request a CD from the FAA on your s/n.
This N number was issued to another Aeronca in 1987, s/n 2584, owned by Richard Love.
