Maintenance Manual for Scott 3200 tailwheel?

Post by RRHaldeman »

I've searched the internet without success. I'm trying to locate a maintenance manual for a Scott 3200 tailwheel. I did locate a diagram that lists the parts at Aircraft Spruce. I cannot find data to tell me the air pressure for a tire or the torque values to hold the wheel halves together. Where can I find such information and/or the Scott 3200 maintenance manual?

Did a google search and found this on Cessna 170 Club,

http://www.cessna170.org/forums/viewtop ... 48&start=0

He contacted owners of Scott and got what he needed but was asked to have anyone who needs info to email Bill at wwaterrose@tycoint.com and not just give out any info, they want to know who has the info for their records.

Wonder if you could get the same info for the "Alaskan Bushwheel" which is a direct copy of the Scott 3200?

Mike,

The email to Bill Waterrose at wwaterrose@avox.zodiac.com was returned with a note: "No such user." I'll follow up with the company.

Joe,

It looks like a manual is supposed to be there, but if you check under "STCs and Manuals" the only four documents found under that listing are:

ABI 3200B Tailwheel Assembly Installation Instructions
ABI 3200B Tailwheel Assembly Final Installation Procedures
ABI 3200/3224A Tailwheel Assembly Installation Instructions
3200 Tailwheel Assembly Approved Model List (AML)

None of them come close to a maintenance manual and none list the torque values for bolting the two wheel halves together, nor the rx for air pressure. I just wrote an email to the company alerting them to that fact.

Dick,

Sorry about that and I just went to the heading and not any deeper.

Will be interesting to see what they say about torque values and so on.

I was not able to locate a maintenance manual so I took digital photos as I dismantled, cleaned and reassembled my Scott 3200 tailwheel. I then selected the best photos in sequence with a few notes to remind me how to put all the parts back together and made up a Microsoft WORD document with all the information. I tried to use the correct nomenclature for all the parts. If anyone has knowledge of a Scott 3200 tailwheel and would like to preview my work product for accuracy and to see if it is understandable, let me know. After proofing, I'd be happy to share it. Just send an email to me at RRHaldeman@aol.com and I can email it.

There is some good info on the supercub.org website on the Scott 3200.
http://www.supercub.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?p=159816
and Steve Pierce was also working on overhaul instructions. There is also info on the Cessna 170 site which I think you have already found as that is where I also found the reference to Mr. Waterrose. What intrigued me was the comment that the Army had a technical manual for the 3200. There must be a copy of it somewhere but I have not had luck finding it. Maybe ESSCO or another supplier of manuals has one for sale. jrh

"David Sbur, thanks for the comments on this subject. I read your post at your website and thought I'd offer one back to you.
You might consider using AN 115 cable shackles for use in attaching to your bellcrank/tabs. The shackles, being a better surface, take the wear that way and save the tabs and the bellcranks. It's what was done to my airplane many years ago during it's restoration and it's given great service with no troubles at all.
You are correct about Bill Waterrose. I've talked to him a couple of times over the years and he's a great "old timer". The only thing is, I believe he's forgotten more than most of us will ever know. When I contacted him for a copy of the U.S. Army Technical Manual (would you believe the Army had an overhaul manual for the Scott 3200?) he was oblivious to it, though. I'd hoped that Scott would at least have a copy of that document.

Hi there.
My name is Sarah Waterrose. Bill was my father. He would have loved to answer your questions but he passed away 2 years ago. Boy he loved everything aviation.
Take care.
