Well...(LOL) we are pretty much known to everyone within 25 miles anyway! We placed the Continental A65-8F on a Taylorcraft F-19 test cell and ran it for 10 minutes with a mix of oil, Varsol and Marvel Mystery Oil. We then drained the oil, removed the cylinders, did a condition inspection, and cleaned the lifters and followers. The piston faces were also cleaned. Although this aircraft had sat in a hangar for 19 years, it appears that the owner worked the engine prior to his death as the cylinder walls (chromed) and rings looked almost new. The intake tube rubbers were "new like"...clean, soft and pliable. New gaskets were applied where needed. Interestingly, two rubber shock mounts were installed backwards. All new mounts were used to rehang the engine. Mark was hooking up the controls while I was out yesterday. I had the Slick magnetos reconditioned, so this installation is almost complete. I decided last night to hang a Sensenich W72CK-42 on this ship as the McCauley 1B90 that came with it is now on my Taylorcraft BC12-D. The mellow wood prop will look good with our paint scheme...who cares about speed? The big news is that the paint booth comes down today...that leaves room for the wings to be installed. This bird may be just a few weeks away from her first flight in 19 years! Doc

Model 4330. Had a 500 hour servicing done at Navajo Accessories, San Antonio, Texas. Navajo can do a complete overhaul also.

Thanks... I have a pair of older Slicks (Model 447) that came with my 0200 engine. They seem to work OK (spark at least) but there is also a AD on the impulse for worn rivets, if I remember correctly. I'm guessing parts are no longer available anyway. A new set of Slicks runs over $2000. I had a friend who just had his Bendix mags for his C85 overhauled and brought up to date. Seems like the price was around $1500. I have a set of Slicks on my A65 and they work fine.

Navajo reconditioned both Slick magnetos for $667. It was basically a complete overhaul without the tag saying so. Navajo also did my "lunchbox" Bendix Scintilla SF4's on my Taylorcraft when I redid the C65-8F engine on that bird 3 years ago. They are my 1st choice for accesory work. Aero Accessories of San Antonio is the close 2nd choice, although they specialize in round engine accessories. Doc
