Need help from the Georgia Boys

Post by Paul Agaliotis »

I need some information about early Aviation in Georgia. One of my planes was delivered new to Blevins Aircraft Corporation, located on Chandler Field in Atlanta. This would have been about 1930. If anyone from the Empire State of the South has any information I would be interested.

Your on Tater. Looks like your area of knowledge to me....We used to have an airport manager here that learned to fly a J-3 at Candler field. Good Friend. He passed away a couple of years ago. Bet he would have known something. David J.

Tater will be your go to man on this as Dave pointed out. I think they have a new library at the Chandler Museum.
Maybe he can find the info for you.......fingers crossed!

Paul, Don't feel like we are ignoring you. Nate is spending 5-6 nights a week at the hospital with Kelley. We visited them last night. Everyone doing well. David J.

P.S. Kelley is doing well, they are just watching her as a precaution...

Paul, I'll put a call into the local historian at the airport. He's one of those guys who eat's up the old history.

The short story I know...
Doug Davis and Bieler Blevins where the first to approach the new atlanta airport called Candler Field and build hangars. Candler field was built over the remains of Asa Candlers (of Coca-Cola fame) failed race track. Davis, born and raised in Griffin, GA; was a true barnstormer, big into air-racing and eventually crashed at the 1934 Cleveland races. Davis is best known for his BabyRuth clad Waco's that would tour the country tossing out BabyRuth candybars with little parachutes. For more Info on Davis... http://www.airportjournals.com/Display. ... ID=0304041

Blevins on the other hand is hard to track down; I only know spotty details. Mainly he ran the first FBO at Candler field and was also an Aircraft Broker.

I'm going down to spend some time in the library tomorrow. What kind of airplane Paul? N-Number? I'll look for pics.

Clay,
Sorry for the delay,I hurt myself at work and have been down for the last week or so.
The airplane is a Waco KNF. The Number was NC686N. The FAA have it reassigned to some kind of plastic waterdrop looking thing.
Thanks for your help.

Contact the FAA aircraft Registry and give them the N number and ask them to retreave records for he aircraft when it was the WACO--Will cost you a few bucks but they will do it. Might take a while. I have tracked down a number of aircraft that way as my hobby is aviation history.

Doug,
I pulled the records on the airplane. It had a long list of owners before it made it to CA. It was delivered to GA when new.
