Blakesburg, Iowa Antique Aircraft Fly-In Sep 2-7, 2009

Post by SFC Hiatt »

Anyone planning to attend the Antique Aircraft Fly-In held at Antique Airfield (IA27) near Blakesburg, Iowa 2-7 Sept? I went two years ago and skipped last year due to AirVenture. In my humble opinion, this Fly-In is better than AirVenture. Airplanes fly all day long and you will see some really incredible airplanes. As a plus, our old Aeronca's are very much appreciated.

Hope to see some NAAers there.

I'm going to give it a try. I have not attended before but have been a AAA member for many years. In my opinion they are the best aviation group out there. They have stayed true to their mission.

If the creek doesn't rise I shoud be there this year again. Probably driving this year--maybe flying. Began with the first one in 1971. Even spent some time as a director and officer in the past. Last years was the best with the 90th anniversary of Air Mail. Got to fly right seat in the Stinson Tri-Motor and Ford Tri-Motor--don't think either will be there this year. But who knows. There will be Aeronca's. The Pub opens at 1800 hours. :)

Well it looks like we have an aerial caravan of 6 airplanes heading that way on Thursday the 3rd. Two Luscombes, PA11, Cessna 170, Champ and the Tri-Champ.

Hey, sorry I missed this post earlier.

I saw you Friday (I just went for the day) I was in a red, white, and blue Citabria. I just saw this thread and your avatar and remeber seeing a red and white tri-champ there and put 2 and 2 together.

And you are right, it is better than any other fly-in. Not the least of which is because its easy to go out flying during the event. I saw you go out flying on Friday some.

Hope you made it back safely!
Cheers

Wow it was another awesome fun fly-in. Still my favorite by far. You are correct I flew Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Made it home fine after flying west around some nasty poor visibility near Kansas City. I'll sort through the 400+ photos I took and post some tonight. ~Chris

For those of you who will be attending Blakesburg 2010, we Aeronca folks should plan to meet. I am proposing a get together each day at 1:00, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, near the Southeast corner of the classic parking where my cream and orange Chief is usually parked. I'm easy to spot, tall slender mid fifties wearing a broad brimmed straw plowmans' hat with a green hatband.
