No Bounce?
No Bounce?
I'm thinking of taking out the no bounce oleo and putting standard oleo's in. What are the thoughts. I'm just not a big fan of the no bounce. I am aware of the decrease in the gross weight. What about log entries? Any input would be helpful.

Re: No Bounce?
If they were installed as part of a Service Letter model change you would need to remove all items required to make the change and return it to the original un-modified state. This would be a log entry.
If they were installed as a STC or major repair/alteration a 337 will be required to document the removal.
If they were put on with a log book entry that is all that would be required for their removal.

Sean,
Many people try them and do not like them, so there are not a lot of them in use. You can sell them for some $$$ but who knows how much.
The nice thing is that since you are returning it back to factory TCDS specs the paperwork should be minimal.

Re: No Bounce?
It was a tri champ, so it came with them. How do I handle that?

Re: No Bounce?
You won't be able to remove them unless you can convince the FAA that the standard oleo can operate at 1450lbs GW or reduce the GW to 1320lbs.

Re: No Bounce?
There must be a 337 on it somewhere when it was changed from a 'tri champ'. What does it list the GW at or rather, should I ask, was it ever changed from the tri gear weight?? 1450 as Paul suggests.

Re: No Bounce?
337 just says aircraft weighed. Weight and balance shows 1500 max. Reference manual shows 1450. I'm confused. I'm sure 1450 is correct.
Re: No Bounce?
Never say die but I think (due to the weight factor) I think you might be out of luck on installing the regular oleo struts. Maybe you can find a friendly FAA type that could help you out but I kind of doubt it. Sometimes things are better left alone rather than kick over the bee hive.

Re: No Bounce?
The 7FC can be operated at 1500 if it is equipt with wide track gear and is serial number 406 and above. The earlier serial numbers (7FC-347 thru 405) can be operated at 1500 if Champion Service Letters 45 and 46 are completed.
Make sure the oleo's are serviced correct. I have both type and the airplanes land the same. When the fluid gets low they land harder and wallow around during taxi.

Re: No Bounce?
What is a good reference for servicing the no bounce. 8.5 ounces exactly?
