Champ axle jack/jack stand/jacking

Who has a great idea for an axle jack/support that will not interfere with the brake cable so the brakes can be more easily adjusted?

hello, I use a small cherry picker engine lift to pickup the front of the chief with a strap at the firewall engine mounts, at every annual and check both wheels and brake assemblies at once. may make a small brake adjustment every couple years. my mechanical goodyears will hold for a full power runup. and dont get used much more than needed.

We made a piece of wood with a ground out "U" shape in the top profiled for the axle, that then has a grove out of it for the brake cable. Put that in a floor jack and it works very well.

Otherwise we do what Collie does. Do NOT lift the airplane using the engine eyelet.

I use a very small hydralic floor jack. The kind that comes in a plactic carrying case for use in your trunk.The pivot/contact shoe that contacts what your lifting is mounted so that it swivels. I simply welded a small piece angle iron to this contact point, and contact cemented stiff rubber to the insides of the angle iron. The brake cable is unaffected during the lifting. It is indeed very secure and Im very pleased with ease of operation.
It also helped that I had the jack lying around for years unused. I would be happy to send a photo if needed.

I have a Bogert Lil' Lifter. It comes with several different pads, the half-round fits the Champ axle perfect.

Doug, gotcha covered. We steal the jack out of a totalled Toyota(we are in the car fixing business). It has a slot in it for the brake cable. Usually cover with some felt or the fuzzy side of velcro to keep the scratching down. Weld a 3/4" bolt in the drive end after cutting a slot and just put a ratchet on it and jack away. Works pretty good. We give them away to all the old airplane folks as I get them. David J.
