Top Cabin Assembly

I have another request for clear drawings. My 7AC was damaged when part of the hangar landed on top of it after a tornado blew my hangar apart some years ago. The wood structure above the cabin was shattered. The demensions on the DVD drawings are hard to read. Does anyone have a clear copy of the drawing 3-525?

the drawing you referenced is the assembly drawing of the top pieces. To me that's of limited value. The drawings that you need are of the individual pieces.

5-153 Rib (side - Need 2)
4-568 Support -Front
4-569 Support - Center
4-570 Support - Rear

I'll send them to you direct along with 3-525 (Assy Drawing). It'll take a few e-mails.

Of course if you can lay your hands on some for patterns - I'd go for it. The drawings will just make any AI happier.

The drawings will help with the demensions. I like the way you have made the 5-153 members full bodied, less chance for compression of the unit. Thanks again Craig. I've made the side ribs "Full Bodied" on a previous restoration. I also had a seasoned mechanic tell me to pre-hang the wings before you cut the top contour. Then you customize the top airfoil line to match your wing. The gap seals will really fit nicely.

This goes for the 11AC as well.

If you use the stock side ribs, with the underside cut out, be careful how much you shrink the fabric in that area. Stitts can easily suck that down. Leave extra fabric along the bottom (top of door frame). So that if it pulls down too much, you can peal up the fabric and release the tension. Then reglue the edge.

And before anyone goes crazy about all the legal trash. I did this as making a part for myself that was as good or better than the original. My AI excepted the part and the aircraft passed a conformity inspection for a re-issue of an air worthiness certificate, by a rep of the FAA.
