It's a wet, windy and nasty day in NW Wisconsin. I'm out of materials for my L16 project until my paint shipment comes in so I thought I'd start a trivia for any members that might want to respond. Obviously doen't take a lot to occupy my mind .
I'll put my (responses) at the end of the question.........

1. At what age did you get the desire to fly? (About age 14 when I had a ride in a J-3 on skis).
2. At what age did you solo? (40 was busy with other committments before that).
3. Type of plane you soloed in? (Cessna 150)
4. Hours to solo? (Just over 9)
5. Favorite flying movie? (12 O'clock high)
6. Favorite flying book? (probably '8 Hours to Solo', I read that over and over when I was a kid; however, "Thunderbolt' would be a close second.
7. If you were able to fly any plane, what would it be? (P-38 Lockheed, no question about it)

It's REALLY WINDY in northern Illinois:

1. At what age did you get the desire to fly? (About age 10).
2. At what age did you solo? (26; just out of law school and my brother asked if I wanted to buy an airplane. I had no money so he said he'd loan it to me. Bought a J-3. First flight on 9/7/1968 from York Township Airport, soloed on 10/12/1968 after 6 hours and 40 minutes instruction.)
3. Type of plane you soloed in? (Piper J-3)
4. Hours to solo? (6 hours, 40 minutes)
5. Favorite flying movie? (Home video enroute to Florida with the kids)
6. Favorite flying book? (Flight of Passage).
7. If you were able to fly any plane, what would it be? (My 182 and my Champ, Really!)

1. At what age did you get the desire to fly? Probably around 4 or 5. I can still remember sitting on a phone book in my dad's Cessna 140 to see out.

4. Hours to solo? 40. Had to wait for my birthday.

5. Favorite flying movie? Anything with old airplanes or the X aircraft.

1. At what age did you get the desire to fly? All my life. On nice days when other kids went to the ball park Dad took my brother and I to one (or all) of the local airports. He was struggling to get his PPL 1/2 hour at a time in a Champ.

2. At what age did you solo? On my 16th birthday, FAA minimum age. Private at 17, Commercial at 18, etc.
3. Type of plane you soloed in? Aeronca 7AC
4. Hours to solo? 160, had to wait until I turned 16.
5. Favorite flying movie? The Spirit of Saint Louis (Jimmy Stewart) My father took me to see it.
6. Favorite flying book? Chicken Hawk (Vietnam Helicopters)
7. If you were able to fly any plane, what would it be? SR-71 Blackbird

2. At what age did you solo? Age 23 in 2008.

4. Hours to solo? 20 as mandated by our insurance but was ready way before that
5. Favorite flying movie? Strategic Air Command with Jimmy Stewart.
6. Favorite flying book? The Right Stuff - Tom Wolfe or any other book about NASA
7. If you were able to fly any plane, what would it be? DC-3 or maybe a Howard DGA15

Was given ride in stagger wing at 10yrs. old and later in a Stinson 108. (1946.) Was hooked. Soloed at 18 and got license shortly after. I THINK I soloed in about 10 hours, flying both an 85 champ and a 65 champ. Also was intrigued by Stinson Reliant that picked up mail each morning at local airport using a hook on a cable. It was operated by all american Aviation out of Wilmington Del. (DuPonts owned it) Much later it became Alleganey Airlines, then U.S.Air. When young,lived near JHW, Jamestown N.Y. Have owned: a 195, A Stearman, part of a Mooney Super 21, 2 Cessna 140's, An 85 Champ, a 7eca, a cub and 3 taylorcraft BC12D'S. The Stearman was the most fun and I miss it! (it was no harder to fly than a Champ.) I always wanted to own a Stinson Reliant and missed one (a NICE one!) in the 80's by procrastinating and dithering! Big Mistake. Its was a real joy to fly also! Favorite flying movie, 12 oclock high, Favorite flying book: "Flight of Passage" By Rinker Buck (don't miss it!) and of course..".Fate is the Hunter" by Ernest Gann! Always thought a Stearman would be a blast to own/fly. I had a ride in one years ago. Love the sound of the radial engine although I can't imagine feeding one oil and fuel. When I served in the air force in the late 50's we had a lot of big old radials. Seems like some burned 115/145 octane fuel. I think the first line fighter in those days was a F102, later converted to F106's.
