What does anyone know about the Low Wing Aeronca? There has been one setting around here for years!

Charles, I think they are beautiful. Much too small for me, but very pretty airplanes. John Houser still has a lot of the prints. Hoping they can be scanned sometime. Someone needs to take care of the airplane. Which model is it? David J.

Believe its called the Chum.

There was the Model 12 Chum, an Ercoupe-licensed design.

And the Aeronca L series, pre-war produced in limited quantities. A pretty little plane that was too far advanced for its time and market niche.

I didn't think any more of the "Chums" existed. There are pictures in the 'Aeronca, A Photo History Book'.

If it has an opposed engine I'll take it. If it has a round engine I'll take it. If it has a Ranger in it I'll need to look at it before I take it.

Excellent question, and one that just falls back to "whatever someone wants to pay for it", 'cause it has one big plus and one big minus:

The minus: It has very little utility as an airplane. Small airplane, odd engine, zero support, etc.

The plus: It's unique, so if someone wants one, this may be their only opportunity to buy it.

There are two Aeroncas I would like to own, the LC and the C3. Craig has managed to buy all of the C2's and C3's out West so I guess I need to head East. I wouldn't venture a guess on the project. There is a lifetimes work in the wings and small Warner stuff is tough to find. If the owner has a price in mind I would like to know. I have other projects and engines if they are interested.
I went to Los Angeles to look at one for auction. It had a fresh cover job and a rebuilt engine. My top number was 45K but that wouldn't buy it. It went to Terry Brandt up in Hood River.
This is a very unique Aeronca and needs to be made airworthy again.
