Of course this will be worth the added cost, hassle and bureaucracy because it will stop terrorists dead in their tracks.
Right?
Well at least the decent law abiding ones.

I still have my Airman Identificatin Card from 1952, guess that would make me exempt. The finger print is the same, don't know about the rest.

More knee jerk reactions to a problem that does not exist. The terrorists have won and the politicans and TSA are doing this to make things look safer when nothing at all has changed.
As well we have never had a bombing on an airplane from inside the country, yet the TSA are now treating everyone of us like we are a terrorist.
Write your senator and congressmen now.

Re: FAA Proposes Photos On Pilot Certificates
The FAA already requires you to have in your possession government issued photo ID when you fly. So I think this photo on your certificate makes sense and makes it easier.
Not too happy about the additional cost this will add no doubt however. I assume that the medical exams will do this. Which means the AME's will have to buy "FAA approved" photo machines which we will have to pay for.
Those using light sport will have to still go to an AME office or some other office to get their picture on their certificate.
I do agree however, that the photo will do NOTHING to stop terrorism. It will really only establish that the person in possession of the pilot certificate is the correct individual. Beyond that it is useless.

I would like to see this as it would provide one more Approved Photo ID. In many instances you need 6 points of ID and photo IDs are worth 2, so my passport, drivers license and pilot certificate would cover it.

Re: FAA Proposes Photos On Pilot Certificates
Other than the cost I guess I don't have a problem with it. Not sure it will do a lot of good other than make 'big brother' feel better about something. I'm trying to remember but it seems like a renewal on my commercial drivers' license along with endorements is around $60 (?). Good for 8 years. I generally don't need it other than the school bus part but if I drop the CDL part and then need to renew for some reason, it's a road test in an 18 wheeler and the whole bit again. I think the new pilot's license was also a 8 year renewal.

The FAA was supposed to do this long ago. But I guess they have more pressing things to do than protect the United States from what ever we need protecting from.

Six points of ID? Sorry but this child is not going to make that ever... they can just throw me in jail and when they realize that the airplane is not going to move (I fly a fairly important person in a business jet) then they might let me out and we can go home.rkittine wrote:I would like to see this as it would provide one more Approved Photo ID. Of course they couldn't implement this with the new Plastic license.

That would require thought and this does not happen often in DC.
As well they might have to take the "English proficient" statement off of the back to make room and that would make France unhappy, so we could not go there...
Idiots... that we pay for.

Re: FAA Proposes Photos On Pilot Certificates
I think the biggest issue is where we have to go to get the photo taken and if it is farmed out to other agencies such as state driver’s license agency, how much they will charge us for using their "service". The time and effort we may have to undergo to drive to the FSDO will be cumbersome to rural pilots.

Re: FAA Proposes Photos On Pilot Certificates
Airlines USED to do their own security. They claimed it cost too much, so......AFTER we (read taxpayers) bailed the airlines out, (they went broke after DEREGULATION) and after 9-11, the bush admin. said....HEY lets start a BIG new" govmint" nightmare and lets call it Homeland Security. It costs billions to operate and it does nothing to cover luggage inspection in the cargo holds, illegals working on flight lines, food service people, ports, etc. We also pay defense contractors for HUGE overruns on all types of aircraft for the military, fraud, etc. (I don't think I'd volunteer to fly an Osprey under any conditions.) I will show my drivers license with photo if someone asks and if this doesn't suffice, screw em. Incidentally, what ever happened to Red-orange and yellow? Remember those flashing warnings ten years ago, designed to throw fear into the populace? They disappeared!JP

Guess this kind of fits here. TSA (Thousands Standing Around) from the Supercub site..pretty good.

Re: FAA Proposes Photos On Pilot Certificates
Becarefull what you ask for.....These license will cost you and possibly every year!
I don't know about you guys but I don't feel like paying say $25 dollars a year ( maybe $100 dollars in a few years) the "privilage to fly".
Oppose any futher FAA regulation before it opposes you......Something to think about.

DC,
Totally agree. This will do zip to make things safer so there is no need for it.
