Champ Windshield

I am just before ordering a new windshiled for my Champ project. It is a 7AC which I hope to keep as original as possible. LP Aero lists two Champ windshields...one for a 7AC (LP part no. 202 for $658) and the other for a 7ECA (LP part no 192 for $330). Because of the difference in price, I obviously would like to but the less expensive one. Both the 7AC and 7EC are listed on the 7-468 Aeronca drawing. Dose anyone know the difference in these two parts? Why is one twice the price of the other?

The exspensive one is the original one it is call the bubble one and will fit with min cutting if any. You can really tell the difference if you look at both from the side. The cheaper one is more flat in the front and does not fit as good up at the wing roots.

The bubble they say it takes 3-5 during molding to get a good one and the others even China can get it the first or second time.

If your still in the early phase of the project go for the $$$$ you will be glad you did.

In addition to Mike K's comments above it seems to me, on those that have the flatter windshield (Citabria style, I guess) they usually have a wider windshield retainer on the boot cowl. At least the ones I have looked at.

I ran into the same problem about 10 yrs ago with Champ windshields. I went with Cee Bailey in California and was very pleased....quality and price!

Give them a call to see what they charge.

(If I can recall I paid a little over $400 ten years ago and that was when LP refused to make them due to distortion problems.)

Thanks y'all for your input. I am taking your advice and will not go with the cheaper windshield. Since my goal is authenticity, I will bite the bullet and pay for the 7AC version.

I have a very strange pre-war Chief windshield (or so I learned).

It took LP Aero a month to make, but boy am I glad I did it! What a difference!

A quality windshield's price is quickly forgotten!
