Flying - finally.....

Post by Tim Juhl »

I got my Champ up yesterday for the first time since Nov 28. It took me an hour to shovel the ramp off in front of my hangar so I could get to the taxiway. This was complicated by an icy mess up against the door that had originally slipped off the roof.

Normally I get to do some winter flying but the weather has been too cold, too snowy or too windy here in Michigan this winter. So far this has been a winter to remember and we are forecast to see the worst storm of the season to date over the next couple of days.

The flying was great with blue skies and unlimited visibility. Snow covers everything and there is a lot of ice out in Lake Huron. The plane flew well but the oil temperature never got above 120 and it was hard to tell whether the heater was on or not. I dressed warmly and enjoyed myself despite the cold.

I'm sure those of you in the northern climes (except for hard-core skiplane pilots) will join me in hoping for an early spring.
