Wasn't there someone who was making the GY clips at one time? Experimental, of course  ............ I have two birds with GY brakes. One with pins and the other with the interal clips which are OK as long as you silicone them in (or at least so far).

Yes, we are coming. Looks like both L-16's and a very pretty Champ from Ringold, Ga. The one that was on the cover of Sport Aviation 8-10 years ago. I will be driving and hauling all the stuff. Hope the WX is good. Lloyd is about to go nuts, he is ready to leave now! I will check with the Luscombe folks and see about the new discs. We will get together at the Convention. Thanks for your help Joe. Mike, I found something on the web that shows where and how to drill the wheels to convert them to the wraparound clips and buttons. If you want a copy, email me: n8926(at symbol)earthlink.net. David J.

The Luscombe Endowment and Classic Aero have a great collection of parts and items for the Goodyear mechanical brakes. Everything from disks to both the early and late clips, buttons, linings, lining pushers, lining pusher rods, brake arm cams, return springs, calipers, spacers, Adjuster ferrules, adjuster lock nuts, adjuster spanner washers, baby moon hubcaps, bearing retainers and retainer washers.

They can show how to maintain the brakes and convert from the early style clips to the later style clips. Their prices are about the best in aviation by comparison.

My brake clips, the square hole types, stay put with .025 safety wire. I have some photos. Reply to Lgriffen80@msn.com and I'll send them.

As I posted previously, I've had good luck using silicone to stick the edges of the brake clip$$$$$ to the wheel. I never lost one since I started doing it. I'm always amazed what one has to go through to get a 337 approved and yet this "mickey mouse" set up has been approved for all kind of aircraft. Having said that, once the GY brakes are properly setup and adjusted they work just find. Good enough to give you a stab or two on landing but not so good to cause the plane to nose over.

Safety wire is an Interesting fix. Is that an approved repair? what hole is in the wheel for the installation? Sounds like the wrong parts mated. Goodyear dropped the little 'tits' in the early wheels in favor of the later holes with retainer buttons to solve this problem. One can convert to the later style clips to resolve the issue by filing off the tits, and installing the later style clips with the buttons.

Should you decide to do it correctly, Classic Aero at 480-650-0883 has most all of the Goodyear parts, clips, buttons, linings, retainers, screws, bolts, used wheel halves. Doug
